Why You Should Just "Do You"

You are the definition of beautiful.

Let's be honest. No matter who you are and what you look like, you always crave perfection. I am definitely guilty of that, no doubt. All my life, I've tried to be different than who I am, tried to become someone I'm not. Why? Because I feel like people are always judging me, and I can't seem to satisfy them. I wanted their approval, and I wanted the attention of being wanted, all the time.

At the age of 12, I started to mess around with makeup and watch YouTube beauty tutorials. I remember thinking, "Wow, if I could look like that one day, then people would think I'm beautiful!" But what is the definition of "beautiful"? The dictionary defines it as: Attractive in a delicate way without being truly beautiful or handsome. To me, it meant someone who could "get" anyone she wants. Kind of a dumb thought, right? But no matter how "pretty" you really are, your physical attraction is only a small part of the reason why guys would fall for you. If your personality was horrible, then bye, Felicia.

People always tell you, it doesn't matter what's on the outside; it's what's on the inside that counts. But who wants to hear that? I know for myself, I see this beautiful girl, and I immediately get jealous. We all want that jealousy feeling from other girls. It's strange, but we all crave it sometimes. It's almost a confidence booster for yourself, and it just makes you feel a little more superior at that moment. However, as time goes on, I've learned a thing or two about the word "beautiful."

Being beautiful isn't only about your physical appearance. It's about who you are and how you treat people. I've met so many heart-warming people, and when I look at them, I think they are the most beautiful human beings on Earth. They might not have the most flawless face, but their heart just warms your soul. If you want to go for that definition of beautiful, then just do you.

Be yourself; don't try to be fake and be someone else. If you don't even know who you are, how can you expect other people to know who you are? It's hard to be yourself sometimes in this judgmental world, but you have to try. You have to push through and show the world who you really are. Just live everyday like it's your last, and who are they to judge you? You're just as human as they are, and what makes you so different? Know that your family and friends will always accept you for who you are. Don't hide from others, because you're beautiful and you deserve to know that. Be yourself, be true, and love you.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
