Sasha Fierce. Queen B. Bee. Bey. These are the names that come to mind when we think of the one and only Beyonce Knowles, aka my forever queen. #TeamBeyonce
As I sit here listening to a mashup of "Hollaback Girl" and "Yonce," which can be found here, I have found myself pondering as to why I love Queen Bee so much. Is it because she radiates confidence? Is it her sleek style and flawless attitude? Since I was a little girl, and when Beyonce was a part of Destiny's Child, I have always found myself fascinated with her. Don't get me wrong, I loved the other girls in Destiny's Child, too, it's just that Beyonce and the way that she performed kind of...took hold of me? Then, in 2003, when she decided to go solo and released "Crazy In Love," my obsession with her just grew and grew to the point where I knew that she was going to be my queen for as long as she lived.
Why do other people in the world love Beyonce? First Lady Michelle Obama was criticized for calling the R&B singer a "role model." What?! Is Queen Bee really bad for young girls? Mike Huckabee went on "The Daily Show" quite some time ago, slamming Beyonce for being "too vulgar" and saying that "girls that are 13 are going to be wanting stripper poles for their birthdays." There are so many things wrong with those statements, that I don't even know where to begin. Let's start with the basics, shall we? Beyonce's life is constantly buzzing around in the media, and I have never seen a tabloid claiming that Beyonce has cheated on Jay-Z. In fact, to put it into perspective, her album, "Beyonce," was all about the intimacy that she felt with her husband. I don't really see how that makes her a bad example for girls? Maybe Mike Huckabee has a point, but let's continue.
Beyonce is a wonderful role model, in my opinion, for the modern woman. It's clear that Beyonce's beautiful, but what's really special about this super star is the fact that she isn't afraid of who she is. Though it can be argued that she's over-sexualized because she wears revealing outfits on stage and dances in a sexual way, my thoughts on those two issues are simply this: she is celebrating her body. Sure, Beyonce is a talented woman who can dance and shake her hips like it's nobody's business, (and it really isn't), but she's proud of her body. The reason that she wears those revealing outfits is that she's not afraid of her body and is proud to show it off.
Can you imagine dancing in those heels?
Beyonce is an amazing, talented artist. She has dominated the music industry for almost two decades, and I don't see her stopping anytime soon.
