Majority of girls dream of the man they are going to marry from a very young age. The fairytale that we create in our heads of the perfect life we will live with the perfect man by our side. These thoughts are always in the future, so far away, and then we hit the stage of our life where these dreams are in reach. It is challenging to not search for your fairytale when it seems as if everyone around you is finding theirs. It’s hard trusting in the Lord’s plan and trusting how the Lord is working in you and in the man you will spend forever with, but you must. This is why I pray for him, a man I might have not even met yet.
I pray for him because it directs my mind back to the Lord when all I want to do is take control and go find him myself. It’s so easy to make him an idol in your life, even if you don’t know him yet, but simply redirecting your mind back to the Lord makes God the center of your life. In every relationship, God must be the center of it; something that sounds easy but in reality can be very challenging. By praying for my future husband, I am already placing the Lord in the center of it all.
I pray for the Lord to prepare us both for the lifelong partnership that we will enter into one day. We will face many struggles and celebrations together but with the Lord as our rock, we will be prepared. We are two different people who are going to face differences, but I pray that we celebrate those differences together. I pray that I am prepared to love him the way he needs me to and I pray he loves me the way I need him to. I pray that the Lord is working in him and through him, not in just a way that affects our life together, but in a way that will impact other people he encounters in life. I pray for the Lord to prepare him to be the man that is called and created to be, a man of God and a living example of our Savior.
I pray first because it builds the foundation of my prayer life in this future relationship. I go to prayer first now, and when I face anything, good or bad, in this relationship, I will fall to prayer first and foremost because prayer is the strongest tool we have in every aspect of our lives. I pray that we never stop praying; praying for each other, for our relationship, for our future together, for everything. I can’t wait for the day that I get to hold your hands and bow my head with you in prayer.
I pray for you constantly because even though I don’t know who you are yet, I already love you and I’m excited to do life with you. I’m excited to embark on adventures with you and I’m excited to walk along side of each other in the hard moments. I can’t wait to be able to look at you and tell you how I’ve been praying for you, and to see the amazing work the Lord has done in your life; the amazing man that He has placed next to me, and I will think to myself, “this is why I prayed.”
