When you're a New England native, it is extremely difficult to move to anywhere else in the country. Here's why:
1. New England Pride
New Englanders take so much pride in where they live. So many celebrities and successful people come from here! We're the best area of the country; don't you forget it.
2. Our Seafood
If the best seafood you've ever had is from Red Lobster, you're doing it wrong.
3. Sports
Oh come on, we know you're jealous of our consistent championship titles. We're known for letting the other teams think we're off our game before we make major comebacks - sorry!
4. Schools
We recognize that we have some of the best schools in the nation. Harvard, Yale, MIT, Northeastern, UNH, UVM, URI, UMASS, you name it! (All jokes aside, UMASS Amherst has the 2nd best cafeteria in the nation, and we don't mess with that).
5. History
We hold some important spots of the nation's history! Yes, we take pride in our OG thirteen colonies status.
6. The Ocean
We love living by the ocean and all the beach days we get to have during the summer.
7. Diversity and Size
We love the diversity of Boston's skyscrapers and Vermont's forests. And we love that they're only a few hours away from each other - we get the best of both worlds! Traveling and adventure is so easy in New England.
8. Weather
We complain about our weather, but what other areas of the country experience all four seasons like we do? Not many! We have amazingly beautiful foliage in the fall, enough snow to ski, sled, and skate every single winter, we watch the flowers re-bloom every spring, and them we hit the beach in the 90-degree heat with our iced cold coffee in the summer!
9. Coffee
Don't even get me started - there's a coffee shop on every corner and we're so grateful for it.
10. Everything Else
We love our high minimum wage and our relatively liberal views on society. You can drive to New Hampshire to get 0% state sales tax.You can drive to Massachusetts or Maine for legal marijuana. For the most part, people don't give a crap about what you do - it's your life and we'll accept you for who you are!
If you meet someone from New England who doesn't live there anymore and they're ranting about how different their culture is, don't shoot them down. Don't tell them New England isn't as superior as we think it is, but it is. Massachusetts and New Hampshire are USNews' top-ranked states in the nation, and Vermont is #10. For a small fraction of the country, we're doing pretty damn well.
