Why I Love The Sims So Much
James Wesser

If you know me, I love the Sims series. This series has been my favorite probably since I was 8 years old. The first Sim game I have ever played was The Sims Deluxe Edition, Which came out in 2002. But the main game that got me hooked would have to be The Sims 2.

Many people don't get why I love the Sims series. Many people say that I don't have a life and all I do is play a video games. It's more than that to me. I see playing the Sims as a hobby. Like people read books or exercise, I just like playing with little made-up people and putting them into crazy situations. The game is an escape from the daily grind that life sometimes is. The Sims allows myself, along with thousands of other "Simmers," to get away from life and make a new life. It's a creative outlet where I can take hours building a house and make it perfect. I can make myself as a Sim and make him have the biggest mansion in the neighborhood. I can create my dream date and get married to them.

When people say "I have no life" because my life is this game, I ignore it. If I am having fun, that's all that matters. If I'm in a bad mood, I know I can put the game on and I know at some point my Sims will do something insane to make me laugh. If I'm angry at someone, I can make them in the game quickly and yell and have my Sims self yell and scream at them. Or put them into a swimming pool and totally "forget" to install a pool ladder.

The Sims is more than a video game to me; it's really an immersive experience for me. I actually get emotionally attached to these tiny people inside my computer. If they lose their job and they are sad, I get sad along with them. I always want to see my Sims succeed in their little virtual life. It's like having a child. You have to tend to their needs and see them grow up. I love having different generations of the same family. I love seeing the Sims grow from little babies to adults starting their own families. I love when I see the families all going over someone's house for a cookout, or for a birthday party. It's the little things that make the game so special to me. You can do things in the game you could never do in real life.

Plus, the fan community is amazing. So many people around the world have a huge passion for the game, which in some cases is bigger than mine!

So, in all honesty, The Sims series has been and always will be part of my life. I have such a passion for the game and want it to keep going forever and ever. It's my getaway from the world around me!

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
