Since the days of "Hannah Montana", Miley Cyrus has been taking the world by storm, one chapter at a time. Her life is a public example of what it means to learn, experiment, and grow into the person you want to be. I would be lying if I wasn't inspired. I have been growing up watching Miley evolve into a kind, caring, and beautiful soul, and without her influence, I think my attitude about growing up would be completely different.
As a fan of Miley from the start, it was definitely hard to see my parents or other adults disappointed with her actions. The music from the album "Bangerz" was my sh!t, and she continued to create great songs, but it was hard to hear adults judge her actions.
Growing up as a child celebrity is honestly one of the oldest stories in the book. Most cases, the media freaks out about the slightest inappropriate behavior and they completely forget that these kids are just learning, and testing boundaries, like any other teenager, naturally would.
When she was getting the brunt of the criticism, I was a freshman in high school. I was growing, experimenting, finding my friends, and testing myself as an individual. At the time, I focused on Miley's music that was about it. I never realized that her growth as an individual was natural and necessary until now.
Now that I am older and in college, I realize how hard it is sometimes to believe in yourself, and truly know who you are. Every day I am into new music, new fashion trends, and new ways of doing things. I change up my look every now and then and I get involved in activities that make me feel happy. Like I said before, watching Miley get picked apart was hard, and now that I am growing as a young adult, who's to say there is a right or wrong way to grow up? The whole point of self-discovery is to discover your true self by yourself, and that is what Miley has done and continues to do.
Miley has taught me that being original is cool. Watching her evolve has inspired me and many young adults to be themselves, and have no shame about who they are. She is a creative, independent thinker who has inspired so many to speak their mind, be kind, and be confident in their own skin. She is such an inspiration as to what we all should be as individuals: unique. The work she has done for the transgender community also deserves some needed recognition.
Miley's kind heart and motivation to bring equal rights to all is a quality of hers that will change the world. It is changing the world. I wish more people in this world were more open-minded and selfless like Miley Cyrus.
I think her ambitious mindset was fostered by her family life. Miley shows us on the daily how to be a good daughter, sister, granddaughter, and friend. Growing up in the public eye clearly isn't easy but she always remembers where she came from, and is proud of her family roots.
Family is everything in this life, Miley is an excellent reminder of that.
Miley's new song, "Malibu" came out less than a week ago and trust me when I say I already know all the words (can you tell I have been waiting for her new music since like 2014?). I love the song but what I love more is the raw emotion behind the lyrics. It's no question this song is about Liam, but I think more importantly it's about how he has loved her throughout her personal growth, her phases, and how she has loved him throughout his growth as well.
Their relationship epitomizes what it means to grow as individuals while also growing as a couple.
I have loved watching Miley grow and develop into the beautiful woman she is. She is inspiring and she is a reminder to all that no matter what is going on in life if you stay true to yourself, those who care about you most will always be therefore you.
Thank you, Miley, for everything you do and keep on being you.
