It's okay to aspire to be like Elle Woods. Yes, I realize she is a fictional character portrayed by the wonderful Reese Witherspoon, but I still love her and want to be her. As a sorority woman and future law student, I look to Elle Woods for many of my #goals. Elle Woods values many things, especially her sisters and her education. She is a strong woman who kicks ass and takes names, even if she would never say it in those words.
1. Elle Woods has some serious drive.
Elle Woods did not need anyone to point her in a direction. Granted, she went to Harvard to win back Warner (ew), she still had a goal she wanted to achieve, and boy did she achieve it. She wanted to prove to all the Vivian Kensingtons that she was more than a pretty blonde girl from California, and she did. She also decided to go to Washington and change a law on animal testing to save her dog's mom. If you don't know, lawmaking is quite a lengthy process. You can't be lazy when it comes to passing a law.
2. Elle Woods is a loyal sister.
Elle Woods showed her true loyalty to Delta Nu in many ways, most prominently by not giving up Brooke's alibi to the jerk known as Callahan. She gave Brooke her word that she would find a way around it, and she did it. She won Brooke's case without giving up her alibi. She stuck it to that jerk, and everyone was thrilled. (I realize that the logistics of that aren't the most realistic, but it was still kickass for the movie's sake.)
3. Elle Woods never changed who she was.
Elle Woods is a smart, independent woman who don't need no man. She never gave up her loyalty to her sorority, her love for pink, or her integrity. Callahan tried to seduce her, and she shot that down. When she went to Washington, they tried to get rid of her pink and bubbly personality, and she just kept on going. She never lost her sparkle. She was fearless.
4. Elle Woods taught us about love.
Elle Woods taught us how to get through a breakup (I have actually thrown things at a boy on TV, and I wish I was kidding.) She taught us to go after who we want. She taught us to not settle for stupid boys who make you second choice. Elle Woods taught us that the good ones are the ones right under our noses. She also taught us how to have the best wedding ever. I mean she got Fenway's home plate to Washington to marry the beautiful Emmett. WHO ELSE DOES THAT?!
5. Elle Woods gave us some pretty inspirational quotes.
One of my favorite quotes of all time is "You must always have faith in people, but most importantly, you must always have faith in yourself." This quote will probably be posted on the wall of any place I ever live. It is so important. Elle Woods had an immense amount of faith in other people and herself. That is so meaningful, and every girl needs to have that in her life.
6. Elle Woods gave us the bend and snap.
This doesn't really need an explanation. It's a great move and also gave us a classic movie dance scene. I promise to try this in a real life situation and let y'all know how that goes. Also for some added humor listen to "Bend and Snap" from the Legally Blonde the Musical soundtrack, it is GOLD. Best line: "Excuse me, would you teach me that? I'm tired of living alone with my cat!"
7. Elle Woods has killer looks.
(You had to know this was coming.) Elle Woods is GORGEOUS. If I looked like her, the struggle wouldn't be as real. Elle Woods makes me want to shower earlier in the morning and style my hair, but I probably still won't. I mean who wouldn't want to look like the 4th of July?
So for now, just let me be legally blonde (brunette but whatevs).
