Why I'm Glad I Was A Content Creator

And why you should consider being one too.

Why I'm Glad I Was A Content Creator

I've been writing for the Odyssey for almost a year and a half now, and I have loved it - yes, even the times when I was busy with school and had writer's block. But as much as I enjoy writing for this awesome platform that has given so many people a place to voice their opinion, this will be my last article. That's why I want to talk about how the Odyssey has helped me and can help you as well.

When I first heard about the RSO Odyssey at my college, I was thrilled. I had been looking for a place to write for, but to me, this was clearly the best option - I was right. At first, though, I have to admit I was hesitant. Even though I was planning on being a writer, I hadn't written weekly articles before, and I was afraid that I wouldn't be able to keep up with that and my classes.

But that's part of what's so great about the Odyssey. You learn to do those things and more. It's one thing to love writing and to do so in private, but it's another thing to motivate yourself to come up with and write an article every week. Of course, there are times when you have to skip, but overall, being in the Odyssey has helped me push past my writer's block and adhere to a deadline, even when I didn't feel like it - just like you have to do with a job.

The Odyssey also helped me get used to having my work be seen by others. Because I'm shy, it took a while to get used to sharing my articles for others to see. But now, I'm not only more used to it, it's also something that I love about it. No, I may not get a ton of views all of the time, but that's not why I write. I write in hopes that just one person will read something I wrote and smile, laugh, feel better about themselves or simply feel less alone. And because of the Odyssey, I've been able to do that.

Writing these weekly articles has also helped me become a better writer. Taking classes to become a better writer is great, but it's been even better having a platform like this to apply what I've learned. And of course, I can add this to my resume.

But the Odyssey is so much more to me than just a line on my resume. I was hesitant when I first joined, but I'm so thankful I chose to do it. And although I know that it's time for me to stop, this really is harder than I thought it would be. I'm going to miss not writing weekly articles for the Odyssey.

But despite that, I'm also happy. Why? Because the fact that I'm sad to be quitting, the fact that this is so difficult, is reassurance that writing really is something that I love and want to do with my life - just another great thing the Odyssey has done for me.

So thank you, Odyssey, for this amazing opportunity. And thank you to the awesome people at UNA who decided to start this RSO on our campus - as well as the other Content Creators. And of course, thank you to anyone who has ever read any of my articles.

So, if you're considering joining the Odyssey, I definitely encourage you to do so. Whether you think you might be interested in writing and want to find out if it's for you, or if you're a writer who wants confirmation and more experience, you should go to this page to join. It won't always be easy, and you'll have writer's block, but I promise that it is worth it.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
