Ahh, filmmaking.
Have you ever watched a movie 100 times and seemed to never get tired of it? My dream is to be one of those filmmakers whose movies become fairly popular or well-known. To other people, it may seem like a basic concept, but I absolutely love filmmaking and it gets me really excited. Not everyone understands the hard work that goes behind it, and I'm proud to be one of the few that do understand it.
Most moviegoers determine whether they think a movie is good by its storyline, plot, actors, and such. When I go watch movies, I am constantly recognizing the shot composition, the different angles, framing, cinematography, elements, mise-en-scène, visual style, narrative conventions, music score, how it's been edited, the list goes on. As an aspiring filmmaker, I am still learning even while watching movies.
My dream is to move to California and work in LA, or at least to produce movies and/or music videos somewhere. I am absolutely excited to see where my film production major takes me. I would be able to meet different actors and actresses, potentially win awards, travel to different cities and/or countries, and just delve into my passion.
There is just some sort of rush I feel whenever I watch an amazing movie or even an amazing YouTube video. The different shots, cuts, edits and such are always so intriguing to me.
As soon as I finish watching a movie/video, I am inspired to just start on a project right there and then. Or even sometimes when I'm walking on campus and listening to some sort of song, I just imagine that I am in a music video. My mind tends to revolve around filming/videoing.
For right now, a lot of what I do around campus and in my student organizations is mainly film promo videos, live bands, and such. I also occasionally film weddings, and I vlog (on my YouTube channel) and it is truly amazing to have so many opportunities where I can incorporate my skills and passion of filmmaking. It has truly opened so many doors for me, and I am ecstatic to see more opportunities for me in the future.
Actually, to say that I am excited is an understatement. Every day I am always searching for new opportunities and ways to try to film an event and such, and when I do, I am always looking forward to it.
Every day and every event is a new opportunity, and I always seek to capture it.
