Children are taught pretty early on in life that stealing is wrong. They're told that taking something that doesn't belong to them isn't what they're supposed to be doing.
As those children grow older, they're going to be able to choose the direction of the lives and actions, and maybe they'll think about those warnings their parents gave them all those years ago.
However, some of those children still grow up to commit the ultimate theft -- the theft of someone else's life.
The reason they're able to do this is because America's gun laws aren't strict enough. People who should never have access to these deadly weapons are easily acquiring them, and therefore killing innocent people.
There have been over 1,000 mass shootings since the massacre at Sandy Hook Elementary School in 2013, which is quite repulsive.
It's disgusting that even after such a terrible event, people are still fighting for gun laws to remain as they are.
But those same people fighting for the laws to stay the same join in on social media offering their condolences to those who have had their lives stolen from them.
Where are we going wrong with this?
There are rarely any stories on the news that don't focus around someone dying, and that's a real testament to what the world has become.
We've learned to accept this lifestyle, and almost anticipate an attack every time we walk outside.
For the first time in my life, I felt nervous in a movie theater because I didn't know if someone behind me or across the aisle from me was hiding a weapon under their hoodie.
And really, that's a terrible way to live.
This is a terrible world for children to grow up in, because instead of their parents telling them not to steal a pack of gum from the store, they have to tell their children to keep an eye out for a person who may physically harm them.
Instead of sitting in school learning about how America has grown, children have to experience lockdown drills and cautionary procedures in case someone comes into their school with a weapon.
Children are now taught that fear is normal, and we are all subjected to it.
Because of the events in Orlando, people are afraid to be who they are, which pushes America ten steps back from where we were socially. We were so close to being accepting and tolerant.
Because of the shootings at Columbine, UCLA, and Sandy Hook Elementary School have proven that places of learning are not safe anymore.
Because of the shootings at Pulse Night Club, and threats to other Pride events, it's obvious that people are going to be afraid to be themselves, which is stripping them of their natural right to happiness.
Gun laws need to change right now because the world has lost its mind. People have lost their way and are turning to violence to ease their pain.
We live in a very sensitive world, and people are more likely than ever to lash out because of emotional or mental issues.
There needs to be fewer people posting on social media hoping that maybe someone far away will make a change because that hasn't worked so far.
The only thing that will inspire change is the willpower of all people united for a common cause -- safety.
Gun laws need to change right now because people need to be able to live again. They need to be able to walk down the street and feel comfortable and at peace.
It's time to stop living in fear.
