What better way to win the hearts of viewers by taking our childhood favorites and turning them into the most relatable TV characters? DJ as a single mom just trying to be “fleek,” Stephanie as an aspiring musician attending clubs and Coachella, and Kimmy with the infamous hot husband who can’t keep his hands to himself, Netflix has perfectly depicted characters of 2016 embedded in our already beloved characters of "Full House." All of our favorite childhood characters are now being shown through today’s societal trends and issues. Their frequent use of the “selfie” and references to Mary-Kate and Ashley’s fashion empire in NYC are the perfect way to win over the audience of today’s society. They perfectly incorporate all of the things we love about "Full House" while capturing the essence of 2016.
The sweet innocence of "Full House" mixed with a little provocative Netflix lingo is just enough to keep me going from episode to episode each night before bed. The sister bond between DJ and Stephanie and the annoyance of Kimmy still holds true in this spin-off. The nostalgic violins that come in for serious scenes and the warmth of the Tanner family is perfectly incorporated into the spin-off. The set of the show perfectly maintains the classic Tanner household with a little bit of a modern touch.
Personally, Max is my favorite character because he reminds me of a male Michelle Tanner, whom will always be my favorite TV character (and I will forever be salty that Mary-Kate and Ashley can’t be cool enough to return to the spin-off show). Max provides the ultimate entertainment of smartness and cuteness at the same time. He is too adorable and everything I could ask for in a TV character. Although the two twins playing the role of Tommy as a replication of the Olsen twins playing Michelle Tanner, it is still a bit too early to see how much they will live up to the character.
The show just got signed for a second season and I could not be more excited to see what the show has in store for us "Full House" fans. The references are genius. The Dirty Dancing scene where DJ dances with her partner from "Dancing with the Stars" is so great. They keep wowing me with the most perfect irony and incorporating today’s society while also never letting go of the true aspect of "Full House." What other amazing and ironic references are they going to make? And the bigger question, will Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen ever decide to return back to the show, or will we always just make jokes about their NYC fashion line until they break?
