The show, Friends, does more than give you a laugh. It makes you feel part of the group as you live through each character's life, episode by episode. After realizing you are not a part of their friend group, but really wish you were, it is very common to start analyzing your own friend group. Often, us Friends watchers ask ourselves, who is the Monica or Rachel in our friend group? Or the Joey or Ross? We begin to realize how each of our best friends are, somehow, similar to the cast of Friends, and why we need them in our lives. Everyone needs a Rachel, Monica, Ross, Chandler, and Joey in their lives.
Rachel Green
We all have a Rachel in our lives. We have that beautiful, fun, and flirty friend who always cares about us. She will be there for us when we want to cry and snuggle at night, and she will be there for us when we want to go out and get drunk. She is the friend that is practically a sister. Fights with our Rachel are the ones that last for 30 seconds because we cannot live without them, or stay angry at them. She is also the friend who always has guy troubles, or a guy. Whether it is dealing with her on and off relationship with the same guy (as seen with Ross in the shows), we still are there for her, no matter how angry we get.
Monica Geller
We need a Monica in our life to keep our own lives in check. Monica is basically the mom of the friend group who cooks, cleans, and gives the most helpful advice. She is the straightforward friend who will tell you when you are doing something dumb. We all have that friend’s place we go to for food, holiday parties, or to watch movies. Although she can be overwhelming at times, she still cares deeply about all of her friends and will do anything to help them.
Phoebe Buffay
If you do not have a Phoebe in your life, you are missing out on a funny, child-like, weird, yet very entertaining, friend. As an animal lover and a vegetarian, Phoebe is very straight in her ways. One of her trademarks is her infamous song, “Smelly Cat.” The great thing about having a Phoebe is that she embraces her eccentricity as well as the remarks her friends make about her. She knows she is weird, but does not change for anyone. Although slightly inappropriate, blunt, and very open, Phoebe still has a kind heart.
Ross Geller
Ross puts a smile on your face. Any friend who is like a Ross is geeky, lovable, shy, and awkward but in an adorable way. As the smartest friend in the group, Ross loves to share his insight. Although, most of the time, he goes off on tangents people don’t care about, he still remains one of the best types of people to know. His most compassionate and loving side can be seen with Rachel. During his on and off relationship, we see Ross portray his silliness yet obsessiveness. We all need that friend to laugh at, but to embrace or go to.
Chandler
Everyone needs that sarcastic friend who is not really great at advice, but can make you laugh. At times, they are uncomfortable and don’t know how to help or approach an awkward situation, but they do know how to make you feel better by finding little ways to make you laugh. In the show, when Chandler tries to be funny and make a good comeback, he usually fails. He also rambles a lot, especially when he is nervous. It is these types of friends we can get along with and laugh at. Although they are not usually the go-to friend, they can put a smile on your face.
Joey
Joeys are the funniest, goofiest, and lovable friends. Most famously known for his, “How you doing," line Joey is not afraid to hit on a girl or flirt with a girl. He is the most outgoing of all the boys, yet silly and often lacks common sense. He is the friend who is always hungry, and who will steal food or eat meat-ball subs. Under all his goofiness and womanzing personality, Joey would do anything to protect his friends. He has unconditional loyalty towards them. A friend like Joey is important because you need a friend to laugh with and make fun of, yet one who cares about you and protects you.
