When one thinks about February 14, what comes to mind? Most girls lust over the idea of a handsome man presenting them with a candlelit dinner. Some girls throw shade at the happy couples, as they don't want others experiencing the 'joy' they're missing out on. I, on the other hand, think about all the exciting food I'm going to be consuming. Now don't get me wrong, I'm a romantic at heart. I adore chivalry, and I'm the girl who writes love letters to guys who don't deserve them. However, this day doesn't ring romance to my ears. Even when I was in a relationship during this month, this date didn't stick out. Why should it? If you love someone, shouldn't you celebrate every day with just as much love and effort?

With Valentine's Day a week away, it seems that the 'most romantic' day of the year has approached. I’m very comfortable with the fact that I don’t have that special someone knocking on my door. While I’ve had my fair share of Valentine's Day dates, I find it interesting how I mostly remember the times I’ve shared with my gal pals. For all those girls who don't have a steamy date planned, here are some reasons to not be salty.

1. There's No Pressure

You don’t have to go through the process of getting waxed, plucked, and shaved. No one’s going to look at your body, so just embrace your natural jungle. This Valentine's Day, you can wear whatever the heck you want, and save money on gifts. Being a college student, I rely heavily on instant ramen and canned soups. Use that money you would be spending on a significant other, and buy yourself a nice hot meal! It is also a well-known fact that all drugstores discount their candy the day after. You all should jump on that bargain, because I know I will.

2. Great Excuse to Hang Out with Your Single Friends

Take this romantic day to spend time with all your gal pals. From watching chick flicks together to splurging on take out meals, the fun never ends! If you don't feel like being casual, plan a semi-formal dinner party and drink champagne with strawberries! Now is the time to be creative and reenact all of your favorite scenes from 'Sex and the City'. Why go through the awkward process of a date, when you can just stare at handsome actors on the television screen? In addition, you know all those cheesy romance songs by The Weeknd? Yeah, pretend like those songs are for us. It is pretty nice to feel wanted.

3. Be optimistic.

Think about what you are not going through. Currently, I am not in a negative or abusive relationship. There is no drama in my life, so I can enjoy my college experience without any tear-streaked nights and distractions. This is your time. These are the days where you are going to have a fun time with your friends and focus on your goals. Anything is truly possible in your future.

Personally, I’m super excited for this upcoming Valentine’s Day. I’m watching ’50 Shades Darker' with my friends because we want to pretend like we have that steamy romance in our lives.
