We get it. You love your tattoos. They make you feel individual, like you're standing up for something, like you're expressing yourself. You get upset when someone rags on them, especially your parents and grandparents. But here's a thought.
Have you ever thought that I love my skin?
So what if I have acne and rosacea. Yeah, I have a few weird birthmarks on my leg, my back, and my elbow.
I LOVE MY SKIN.
There's a reason that I do not have tattoos. Brace yourselves.
I know that I am perfect exactly the way God made me.
I don't want to look down at my arm and see something that was not naturally there.
Now, let's understand that I'm not saying tattoos are bad. You do you, boo.
I'm just not that into them.
Genesis 1:27 says, "So God created mankind in his own image, in the image of God he created them; male and female he created them."
I hold true to this verse. Without tattoos is how God created me, and that is how I am going to stay.
Yes, I do realize that I have pierced ears and you could make just as valid of an argument for that. The truth is, I was going to get my ears pierced as an 8th grade graduation present but decided against it because I felt like they weren't totally necessary to my appearance. Of course, by the time my 18th birthday rolled around, I decided that it was time. It was something that I could sign my own name for without needing parent permission, I had saved money for it, and earrings just flat out make me feel bomb. When I'm having a bad day, I pull out the cat or panda earrings and they make it all better.
You might have the same view of your tattoo. I'm not saying that it's bad or I don't like you because you have a tattoo.
I'm just saying that it's not my thing.
For me, the most important thing that I need to show is my faith. I show that every day by being myself and who God chose me to be.
Psalm 139:14 says, "I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well."
It IS true - we are fearfully and wonderfully made. I find that creativity through keeping my skin the way that God created it.
The next time you think you don't look good enough, think about this:
GOD CREATED YOU EXACTLY HOW HE WANTED YOU TO BE.
I don't need holes in my ears to wear pearls every day.
I don't need ink on my skin to remind you that I've overcome something or that my religion is important to me. Those are things that I am reminded of every day when I wake up in the morning and look in the mirror.
