Why Dogs Are Your True Best Friends

Dogs really are a man’s (and woman’s) best friend. They are the ones who never leave you behind and that are always there for you no matter what. There are several reasons why dogs make the greatest friends.

1. They never leave your side.

Literally, they never leave. They cannot leave you alone when you walk from one room to another because they always want to be near you. They’d even be in the bathroom with you if you left the door open. Sometimes we get annoyed by their constant presence, but deep down, we appreciate the comfort and acknowledgement they give to our existence.

2. They listen.

On top of following commands such as “sit,” “stay,” “lay down,” etc, you can talk to them about anything and they will just sit there and listen. It is especially great to talk to your dog because they can’t talk back to you. They just have to sit there and listen while you rant about your day or that person who just pissed you off. Sometimes it’s nice to just talk about things and not have any one respond and, of course, dogs are great at that.

3. They understand your emotions.

I don’t know about other dogs, but my dog can easily tell what mood I am in based on my tone and movements. Whenever I am upset, my dog rests near me or sits against me, almost as if he is letting me know that he is there for me. Whenever I am mad, he either walks slowly towards me to try and comfort me, or he will run to the farthest room in the house if I am really mad. Just from someone’s tone, dogs have a way of comforting you and understanding how you feel.

4. They are great protectors.

Whether it is a family member, friend or the mailman, my dog will always bark at whoever is at the door. They have a way of making you feel safe by letting you know that they will always be there to protect you in case something really does happen.

5. They have a poor, short-term memory.

Let’s face it. We have all done embarrassing things, possibly more than once, in front of our dogs or even to our dogs. The good thing is that dogs forget things relatively quickly, so we don’t have to worry about them remembering our embarrassing moments. This also means we can play with their tails, mess with their ears and make odd noises because they will keep playing along, despite previously getting annoyed.

6. They are your personal dishwasher.

Maybe not literally, but they are excellent at finishing your leftovers. Oh yes, especially all of the unwanted vegetables.

7. You will never be bored with them.

Dogs always have a way of making you smile and keeping you entertained, even when they are just chasing their tails. They will always be around to play fetch or watch TV with you when your plans get cancelled. There’s always something to do with them around!

8. They love you unconditionally.

No matter what, dogs will always love you and they have so many ways of showing it. You can get mad at them and yell at them, but at the end of the day, they are always there for you and will always be by your side. It’s almost as if they know how to make your day better. They can show that they are there for you simply by leaning against your leg. Plus, even though we may say it’s gross, we all truly love getting in their faces and having them give us millions of kisses.

Dogs have so many unique ways of showing how much they truly care about us and how much we mean to them. They are all our own little princes and princesses, brothers and sisters. They are family, and they will never leave you behind.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
