No one in the world can say that music is not a part of their life. One of the earliest forms of art was music because it seems to unify people without ever having to say a word. Not many things can control the emotions of other people without physical touch or words, but music can. It allows people to express themselves through an emotional and creative outlet that, most of the time, is more effective than mere words.
I often use certain songs to boost my confidence or calm me down. However, some songs make me angry and can affect my whole day. If you let your emotions become linked to the music in which you surround yourself, the melodies will become the cheapest form of therapy you'll ever find.
Picking up an instrument for the first time is an exciting and scary experience. I believe everyone has the ability to make music. It will take dedication, patience and more than a few tears to perfect your talent, but it will be worth it. When you have a bad day, you can relieve stress by playing your favorite songs or diving into a new piece of music you've been wanting to try. It really is an effective way to feel better about whatever circumstance you are in. The only time I do not have music playing in the background of my life is when I'm at school. I even listen to Tchaikovsky's "Nutcracker" when I sleep, most nights.
By learning how to read music before the age of 10, I firmly believe it changed my outlook on life. I have bad days just like anyone else, but I can sit down at my piano and play out my frustrations or I even have the option of learning a completely new instrument. Music fuels the mind and thus fuels our creativity. Listening to instrumental music challenges you to create a story around a piece with no words. That takes serious thought and imagination sometimes. Many people immediately push away certain genres of music without having explored what it has to offer. Not all styles will appeal or resonate with a person, but you may discover a new part of yourself when you are open to all possibilities.
So, do we actually need music in our lives? With all that being said, my answer is a firm yes. Without music, fans would have no reason to stand and honor the people who have fought and died for our country at every sporting event and elevator rides would be even more awkward than they already are without the jazz music breaking the silence. I mean, what is Christmas without Christmas music? So turn up your radio, pick up that old guitar, or even sing to the top of your lungs if you want to.
Let music be your escape when you feel like life is just getting to be too much to handle. A well-written score can intensify any movie; find the soundtrack for your life and embrace it.
