Why D.C. Needs To Crack Down On Its Snow Handling
Stuck in DC

This past week, D.C. has has been overrun by snow. To the southerners, this storm has been a test of strength, whilst the northerners don’t seem fazed. The juxtaposition of the two is so vast in experience that is has created an uncomfortable environment. All in all, this city is in desperate need of a remodel in perspective when dealing with major snowstorms.

Over the past few days, it has been commonplace to view an ambulance from a dorm window pulling a helpless student from the ground after a tragic fall. Rumors of car accidents and countless deaths have been recounted, and the saddest aspect of the numerous stories is how devastatingly preventable all of those injuries could be. For some issues, a miniscule solution is in order: salt.

A tradition and subconscious thought in the north, salt adds friction to the snowy and icy ground so that slips and falls that can condemn any one person can decrease greatly in occurrence. A simple solution that is commonly looked over in this region, salt can undoubtedly save lives.

In addition, it is important to wear appropriate clothing for the weather. A useful tactic would be to double up on everything: double the socks, double the shirts, double the pants, and sometimes even double the gloves. When playing in the snow, thin gloves can turn useless in seconds, so it is important to either wear two pairs or swap them for ski gloves.

Finally, a mistake that a lot of people make is neglecting to cover up ears or necks, areas of the body that can become very vulnerable in the cold weather.

In conclusion, D.C. seems to have little knowledge of how to prepare for sudden amounts of snowfall, a fact that has led its residents to become more alarmed than need be. The worst that snow can do on its own is generate a small power outage or inhibit the use of sidewalks and roads.

Take advantage of how beautiful the little flurries are! Build a snowman! Throw some snowballs at friends! Unfortunately, no matter how beautiful the landscape looks now, it will undoubtedly turn into gray slush by the end of next week, so go out there and experience the real-life winter wonderland for yourself!

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
