Jerry Seinfeld said, “You can tell what was the best year of your father’s life, because they seem to freeze that clothing style and ride it out." Well… Ain’t that the truth?
If your dad is anything like mine, you’ll be able to relate to these. Some serious some pretty funny, but all things we can appreciate from dads.
- Accepting that his daughter was athletically challenged and had to sit through years of dance recitals and choir concerts, but never complained and did it with pride. Even if he could barely keep his eyes open.
- The mullet. LOL what on earth was he thinking?! (Yes, my dad had a mullet. And yes he thought it looked good.) Business in the front, party in the back.
- He can grill up a mean steak, or chicken, or hamburger. Moral of the story he can cook (even if he’s tricking me that it’s pork). Sorry that you have a picky eater for a child.
- Karaoke. You haven’t seen karaoke until you’ve heard your dad sing. He’s no Justin Bieber, but he can rock any stage!
- Having the crap scared out of you at any given moment. And having to hear him laugh about it for at least 15 minutes.
- Political conversations. There’s no better person to talk politics with than your dad. He will open your eyes to new ideas you never even thought of.
- He’s not mean. He doesn’t hate you. In fact, it’s just the opposite. He loves you and that’s why he’s so hard on you.
- Whether you’d like to admit it or not, you get your charming good looks from him.
- In retrospect, he didn’t make you tall. *insert eye roll here*
- He’s always down to be mechanic dad and check the oil for you the “thingy ma bob” next to the “diddly jig”.
- He supports your dreams. And boy oh boy, does he hold you to them.
- The dad bod. Enough said LOL
- He’s always working extra hard to provide for his family and allow us to live comfortably.
- The dance moves. I thought I was the dancer of the family, but jokes on me because it’s actually him. *in sarcastic voice*
- His humor. He’s always showing you some stupid picture or video that he thought was hilarious. Sometimes it’s funny but most of the time what’s funny is his reaction to it.
- How he refuses to be old so he literally dyes his eyebrows/facial hair. LOL only dads.
- Going off of the last one, the way he uses way more gel than my mom for the little amount of hair he has even though he claims to have the hair of an angel.
- The one time he got a bunch of people to send me “I’m all about that bass” to confuse me.
- Naming me after a football player and giving me my love for sports, even if I can’t exactly play them.
- Teaching me not to be a pussy. Allowing me to get my hands in the mud, and not be a cry baby.
- Teaching me to defend myself no matter what. (Even if one time it sent me to the principal).
- Always having my back. I may be wrong and you’ll tell me that, but you never let me fight alone.
- Believing in me.
- Loving me even at my worst
- Making a lesson out of everything, even if sometimes I wish you wouldn’t, I appreciate it.
Out of all the dad’s in the world, I’ve been blessed with the best. Many people would say I look and act just like my dad (aka my mom). I have his forehead, his bright smile, and his big brown eyes. But I also have things like his hard headed personality, his heart of gold, and his sense of humor. My dad and I have not always seen eye to eye but as I’m growing older I’m starting to become a lot more close with him and see that he really only had my best interest all these years. I’m so blessed to have the best dad in the world, I love you Dad!
