For students, it’s that point in the semester when midterms are beginning to occupy our entire day-to-day schedules. Whether it’s taking an actual test, studying for one, or going to reviews sessions, they seem to take up every ounce of our focus.

Colleges and universities do their best to try and keep our stress levels down, providing us with everything from puppies, to yoga sessions, to sweet snacks that give our energy a boost. But the one thing they haven’t tried that seems to be such an obvious fix lately is the newest trend of stress relievers – adult coloring books.

The craze of these many patterned books has blown up over the past year. Their pictures consist of elaborate patterns, causing you to fill them in in very repetitive, balanced designs. Focusing on something as satisfactory as the meditative action these coloring books provide really takes your mind off all the other work and studying looming over you, and lowers stress by allowing you to focus on one thing instead of everything during the stressful times that are midterms and finals.

Another benefit to these books is that you don’t have to feel as guilty about procrastinating when using them to tune out and ignore the anxieties around you for a while. Once you finish one of the elaborate patterns and see that you’ve actually created something, you feel much more productive than if you were to simply shut your brain down completely and binge watch Netflix for a couple hours.

All these benefits come with the joys of being able to be an adult and still have it be acceptable to color in a coloring book. But the best part by far is the variety. The choices in themes of the books are absolutely endless. There are different animal themes, different sceneries, gardens, castles, mandala patterns; even fandoms have had their own adult coloring books added to their list of merchandise! The only thing better than coloring to de-stress is coloring to de-stress in a Harry Potter themed coloring book.

So when it comes time for finals and students begin to be swallowed up by their hectic, stress filled schedules once again, schools should consider this new method of relaxation. As calming as petting puppies can be, giving adult coloring books away to tense and fatigued students could be just as, if not more, beneficial.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
