For all of you camp people out there -- you may have gotten to college and thought, wow, this is just like summer camp, but with classes. I have found a multitude of similarities between camp and college and I'm here to tell you a few of them.
Just like camp, you meet up with friends from all over the country when you get to school.
I mean, hey, sometimes you even end up with your camp friends at your college. And these friends are the best types of friends because you get a break from them multiple times a year and start to miss them just as its time to go back.
Like your camp friends, your college friends have seen you at your best and at your worst.
From Nike shorts and T-shirts every day of the school week to wedges and hoops on the weekends, they have truly seen you go from zero to 100 in a matter of a few hours. Just like camp dances, right? The best part is that they still love you when you're still wearing the same outfit on Wednesday that you wore on Monday, and they don't even mention it when they notice.
Camp is a hub for weird trends and so is college.
I mean, do you wear Chacos every day at home? The things you wear at school tend to stay at school, and your college friends probably wouldn't even recognize you at home in normal clothes at 3 p.m. on a weekday. You will also probably never find another place on earth other than camp and college where people wear athletic clothing to be trendy and not just to work out.
Just like at the end of the summer when you come home from camp, your friends at home don't understand anything you say, do, or wear.
You have to admit, it's a little frustrating to explain an inside joke for the millionth time to your friends at home, but at the same time, you feel super trendy and love when your friends start to catch on and mimic you.
Like my camp friend turned college friend likes to say, "College is just like camp, but with real parties!" But really, from the friends you make to the unforgettable experiences you have, college really isn't that far off from summer camp.
