Why I Can’t Wait For Summer
Alaina Wyrsch

I am SO sick of this weather. Don’t get me wrong, I am one of those people who love winter. But when it is still snowing in the beginning of April, I have had enough. I’m hoping mother nature decides to straighten up her act and let spring actually act like spring. And when spring is done, so are my classes, responsibilities, and my worries; because then comes summer. Here are 10 things that I am so excited for this summer along with some of my pictures from last summer!

Sun

When one thinks of summer, they will most likely think of the sun. How can you not? I can’t wait to wake up to the sun shinning and the birds chirping. It instantly puts me in a good mood.

Food

I am so ready for the picnics, summer barbecues, and most importantly- the ice cream truck and s'mores.

Summer Jobs

This summer I will be working at a popular coffee franchise called Aroma Joes. In the past, I have worked at an ice cream parlor and a pizza restaurant. Summer jobs should be fun places that you look forward to go to work. They should be fun, energizing, and fill up your summer with memories.

Oceans, Lakes, and pools

When outside, the sun in the summer can be brutal. So it’s always nice and refreshing to take a quick dip into an ocean, lake, or pool. That cool and satisfying feeling you get when going from burning hot to crisp cool is downright amazing.

Sand

I for one love the sand. I love going to the beach and walking barefoot in it and building sand castles. No matter how old you get- building a sand castle is ALWAYS acceptable.

Tanning

My typical summer morning (when I don’t have work) is to wake up, throw on a bathing suit, and head to the beach where I plan to tan all day long. Although some people find tanning boring, I love laying out under the sun, relaxing, and listening to the waves.

Not Caring

During the summer, I tend to not have a worry in the world. It’s summer! You’re supposed to only worry about what beach you’re going to and what shift you will work in between your plans. Don’t worry about next year or future responsibilities, and live in the moments of the summer. Take this picture of my friend and I last summer as an example. Do I look like I had any cares in the world while I was standing out of my sun roof?

Freedom

Not having homework, papers, and projects to do is one of the many reasons why I love summer. Although you have your summer job, you still have a bunch of free time in between. I for one love having freedom in the summer and being able to make plans whenever I want.

Windows Down

Picture this. You’re driving with your friends (or by yourself) in your car, your favorite song is blasting and your obviously singing along, the sun is shinning bright, and the windows are down. This scenario alone makes me even more excited for summer.

Fun

Summer means one thing…FUN! You have the ability to do whatever you want with whoever you want. So go out, and have a fun time doing it.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
