What's the biggest thing you miss when you go away to college? Not your parents or your hometown friends or that favorite restaurant. No, you miss your dog (or maybe your cat, if you're crazy). You miss your pets. You could get a fish but, who really wants a fish? No one —unless it's a dolphin — but I don't think that'll fit in your college apartment. You could get a hamster, maybe, but they smell pretty bad. There just isn't a pet that's cuddly and manageable for a college kid. Except there is. Bunnies. Here's why:
1. You don't have to take them out for a walk.
Live in an area where you don't really have anywhere for your dog to play and walk? No problem because bunnies don't need to go for a walk. They will wiggle out of their harness (trust me from experience). Too cold out? Weird schedule? Not an issue! Bunnies obviously need to come out from their cage and play, but we'll get to that.
2. They can have tons of fun in a tiny room (just like us).
Obviously, the more room, the better, but bunnies can hop around in a tiny area and have fun. As long as they have somewhere to crawl under and jump on, they're going to be happy campers.
3. They're pretty clean.
You have to clean their cage but the way cages are designed today makes this a breeze so like you can handle that. You can actually potty train them to not pee outside of their cage and their poop is like little rocks so it's so easy (and not disgusting) to clean up.
4. They're cheap.
They don't rack up the medical bills that dogs do and they certainly don't have as expensive of food as pups. Share the costs between your roomies and you'll each spend five bucks a month, maybe.
5. They're as cuddly as a puppy.
They can be completely content wrapped up in a blankie and snuggling with you on the couch. Get a bad grade? Snuggle with your bunny. Break up with your boyfriend? Snuggle with your bunny. Happiness is simple.
6. They "binky."
Bunnies do this thing when they get excited. They jump in the air and twist their body around. It is quite possibly the cutest thing in the world and you will not regret getting one just for this possibility.
7. Everyone will want to come over and see your bunny.
Meet a cute boy? Tell him you have a bunny and that he should come see it. Make a new friend in class? Tell them you have a bunny and they should come see it. Strangers will be asking to see your bunny once you post photos and word gets around. It's a great friend-maker.
8. They're the cutest things in the world.
I mean... Take a look at this fella.
