I didn't realize how much black I owned until one of my really good friends peered into my closet my freshman year of college, and was like, "Do you own anything that isn't black?" And, while of course I do own plenty of clothes with color, the majority of my wardrobe is black. I have countless black pants and leggings, black coats, black shoes, and black purses. If a dress comes in color or black, I'll probably buy it in black. Black is my all time favorite color, and here are reasons why.
1. It's classy: Black oozes sophistication. Tell me a guy doesn't look snazzy in a black suit or that a girl doesn't look on fire in a black dress. The dark, sleek look can be rocked in so many forms. Whether it be a black tie or a cute black purse, it can really make your look stand out.
2. It's easy to match: Honestly, this should probably be my top reason for owning so many black items. You can match black with pretty much any other color. Ridiculously tired for your 8 A.M. class? Throw on black leggings and a green top and you are good to go. Coordinating different colors together, or trying to find the shorts in your drawers with that perfect shade of blue that will match that one top that literally doesn't match with anything else other than those shorts is tough. Ain't nobody got time for that.
3. It's slimming: Wearing black makes you look thinner, which is really good because I don't know how else to hide the chocolate and Cheez-Its I'm always consuming.
4. It hides your messes: If Taystee from "Orange is the New Black" wore a black T-shirt that day of her barbecue mishap, maybe she would have been saved from her distress. While you will still need to wash your black clothes, if you spill on a black shirt, it probably won't stand out as much compared to wearing a pink or purple shirt. Black has got your back on your adventures in being a slob.
5. It keeps you warm: Black attracts the sun and absorbs its rays, so when the snowpacolypse of the Midwest descends upon us, buy some more black coats and gloves because they will keep you warmer compared to other colors.
6. It's easier to wash: It saves me a lot of time when I just dump in all my black leggings and shirts into the laundry machine. Who has time to separate lights from darks when there are naps to be taken? Priorities.
Overall, there will never be a "new black." Stop trying to make other colors happen. It's not going to happen.
