Why Being in Oxford Over the Summer is Awesome

Going home is fun, until you're stuck there.

Why Being in Oxford Over the Summer is Awesome

Whenever school is about to end, I'm always looking forward to the summer. But at the same time, I'm always sad to leave my college town, Oxford, Ohio. Being home is great, but it can get boring pretty quickly. In about a week or so, you start to remember why you left home to go to your college town in the first place. Luckily, I get to spend this summer in Oxford. It's crazy how empty the small town is during the summer. In all honesty, it's better here with less people, because you get to do way more things compared to when the campus is buzzing with students.

Whether you're in Oxford to take summer classes or working, or you have an internship, there are plenty of different ways to enjoy it. During the school year, we all have a set schedule. This gives us more time to relax and hang out with friends, while also multitasking with work every now and then. Here are nine reasons why being in Oxford during the summer is great:

1. Shorter lines.

Less people = shorter, or even no lines. This includes Chipotle and bars *wink wink, nudge nudge*

2. Summer Specials.

Many bars, restaurants and stores have summer sales and specials going on.

3. You meet people that are also stuck with you for the rest of the summer.

Summer SQUADS.

4. It's never too crowded.

Anywhere. Ever. Especially at the Rec. All those treadmills and ellipticals you tried to snag during the school year are finally open for business all day.

5. You have more time to explore.

During the school year, you're busy with exams and assignments, group projects and binge-watching Netflix. During the summer, you might be taking summer classes and working, but you'll probably also have more free time to explore Oxford. This includes making a trip to Hueston Woods, exploring the bluffs on South Quad or going to the summer concerts Uptown.

6. Parking spots are easy to come by.

No more fighting to get that front row spot or doing circles around Uptown.

7. You'll get to live by yourself or with roommates for the summer

When it comes to staying under your own roof or your parents'... I'll take the independence.

8. You'll be able to take harder classes during the summer and get them over with.

What's better than making your future semesters easier? Plus, these classes are usually easier than the ones during the school year because you have a shorter amount of time and less people. Teachers can really focus on helping you and you can focus on laying out on your roof.

9. You can even figure out where all of the Pokestops are before everyone comes back.

Find some friends and go Pokemon hunting. You can find all of the hotspots (and I may or may not be saying there's one by King Library...).

But really, who doesn't love Oxford? It's a small town in the middle of nowhere, with plenty of things to do. Try visiting the Farmer's Market, checking out campus events and making new groups of friends to hang out with. Explore around Hueston Woods, or go visit Hamilton to see what else is out there!

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
