All of us college kids, nowadays, were born in the 90s. Some of you may be on the later side of the generation and, heck, some of you might be lateĀ 80s kids who are taking a few extra years to graduate. If anything, you have a better memory of the 90s. While we were young in the 90s, it gave us so many experiences, TV shows, and clothing items that I, for one, will never forget.
Many of our early preschool days were spent watching Nickelodeon, Cartoon Network, ABC Family and Disney Channel. I always wished that I was old enough to watch Dawson's Creek and the other angsty dramas with my siblings, but now that I am older and can afford my own Neftlix account, I realized that they were not the real deal. The real deal was the trivial drama of D.J. Tanner and her gorgeous boyfriend Steve on "Full House". Ā I yearned for her baggy sweaters and cropped leggings, which have made an epic comeback for Ole Miss students. I also would have killed to be one of those cool kids who jumped on the movie reel right before a Disney Channel Original Movie. Boys and girls, alike, can agree with me on this one.
During my much needed TVĀ time, I was constantly sporting a sundress that epitomized the 80s -- big flower patterns and pastel colors galore. I remember a lot of windbreakers during this time. Maybe it's because my brother still likes to wear my dad's windbreaker as a joke, from time to time. And everybody wore Gap.Ā Screw it, I still wear Gap.Ā Call me old fashioned.
I remember the 90s as a simpler time because there weren't things like Netflix and gaming systems to distract us. There was good old corn hole and Mr. Potato Head and baggy jeans. Oh, and of course I had bangs once or twice.Ā
Maybe I'm nostalgic for a time when I didn't have such big questions on my plate, or maybe I'm just hoping that side ponytails make a comeback sometime soon. Regardless, the 90s are a time that I look back on fondly, even if I was wearing diapers for a good chunk of it.
