Last term I had the misfortune of having 8 A.M. class. Actually, most terms I have that particular misfortune - for some reason, human services professors enjoy that horrible time slot for class. I only know of one person who actually likes waking up early for class, but I assume she's an anomaly. Most people (myself included) hate 8 A.M. classes. Who wants to wake up in the dark to go to a boring class, still half-asleep? So during my previous 8 A.M. class, I decided to make a list of why 8 A.M. classes are horrible.
1. It's way too early in the morning.
If your class is at 8 A.M., my guess is that you need to wake up between 6:30 A.M. and 7:00 A.M. (unless you go as a zombie, which, if you do... no judgment). Especially in winter, this early wake-up time means waking up in the dark - if it's dark outside, you should be asleep! Not to mention you'll spend your whole day completely exhausted now, because of that stupid 8 A.M. class.
2. You have to go to sleep early... or face the fact that your next day will be ruined.
To get an adequate amount of sleep, you have to go to bed early when you have an early class. It sucks. Who wants to go bed at 10 P.M.? No one. And if you decide not to go to bed early, you wake up feeling like death.
3. You have to try and pay attention in class, even though you just want your bed.
Pretending to be awake in class during the day is hard enough - when the sun has just risen an hour ago, it's simply unfair to expect us to be awake.
4. It's so easy to skip, which can wreck your grade if you're not careful.
It's not hard to turn off your alarm and fall right back to sleep that early in the morning, is it? You snooze once, twice... five times later, you really don't have time to get ready anyway. Guess you'll just have to shut it off and miss your fifth class of the term...
5. Did I mention it's SO EARLY?
Why can't we just be allowed to sleep in?
So basically, early morning classes are horrible, and you should avoid them at all costs. Unfortunately we'll all probably have to suffer through them at some point. My advice to you is to save your absences for the end of the term - then you can take some time off and enjoy the end of the reign of 8 AM classes.
As for myself, I will be asleep at 8 A.M. every day this term since I have afternoon classes... but good luck to all of you!
