Whose Problem Is It Really, Hers Or Societies?

Feminism is not about woman hating men, woman controlling men. No, feminism is standing up for equal rights for men and women and sadly the world started off as what some still define as a “man’s world." I am tired of so many things skewed against woman in the media, especially towards their dress attire. From Ciara's dress to a 15-year-old girl with hips wearing leggings. Young women are continually being criticized for their appearance. The time for this injustice must stop and it begins with the place we all learn from, our schools.

As many of you have probably read in viral Facebook posts multiple girls are being sent home from school because of their attire. Outfits compiling of leggings, three strapped tanks, shorts, skirts all of which were at appropriate length are being deemed as distracting to young boys. Well I don’t know about you, but when I was in high school and a cute guy walked in wearing a muscle shirt my attention was compromised. Yet I moved passed it.

It’s been said time and time again but If a young man cannot take control of his education and make the choice to focus on his own we should not be penalizing these female victims by jeopardizing their education. Sure, some schools say drive home and change, or they might even give you a change of clothes but the damage is already done. You feel exposed, vulnerable, and for what? Your shoulder was too attractive?

I do believe that there are some articles of clothing that are inappropriate for school grounds but those same articles would also be deemed socially inappropriate in a public venue as well. These articles being miniskirts, booty shorts, extreme cleavage etc. Yet you also have to consider that each girl is made different.

I was extremely tall and lanky in high school so shorts that were bellow arm’s length were unfashionably long to the point that I just wouldn’t wear them. It was unfair, and what made that more annoying was if I were to wear a pair of shorts above my arm length I’d still looked appropriate, but the school wouldn’t agree due to the set dress code.

We should not be body shaming a young woman for how she is built whether it be that she has a bigger chest, butt etc. Society has to stop blaming someone’s appearance for why negative things are happening. We learned this lesson with rape did we not? That no matter what a woman wears she does not deserve it. Of course rape is not one the same scale, but to blame a young women for being distracting is not her fault, but rather the one who is distracted. So basically no matter what a woman wears to school she should be entitled to not only equal treatment, but an equal education. Stop penalizing those who want to learn, because if I remember right, our parents generation wore tube tops, crop tops etc. and turned out just fine.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
