One question that always stumps my brain is "Who will I be in the future?" Will I have a nice house, high paying job, and big family? Will I be successful in everything I do? Is there more to my life than current reality? These are all the thoughts I have when asked about who I will be in the future. Truth is, I won't really know until I get to that particular time in my life.
This question begs for someone to really think about their own life and the interests they have. Do you like the outdoors? Are you interested in science or English? Is there a reoccurring theme to everything you do? The question, itself, is vague and can mean different things for anyone.
I decided to ask a few people what this question meant to them and the results were surprising. A few didn't want to answer because they couldn't think of one exact thing and that was okay. We never know what the future will hold or what experiences we will have. There was a large variety of answers to this simple question of who someone will be in the future. Here are some quotes from named and anonymous sources.
"I don't know who exactly I'll be in the future, but I have a pretty good idea of what I need to do to get there. I'm taking risks on this ride called life." -- Hannah Wilson, 21
" I don't know who I'll be in the future but I can choose who I want to be today, and that's the first step to being who I want to grow up to be." -- Fred Millan, 19
"Same old bloke." -- Anonymous
"In the future, I want to be an advocate for social justice." -- Kristin, 21
"I will be a helper of people. I will be a dreamer and a seeker of love and knowledge." -- Keeley Sherman, 19
"An inventor." -- Kennedy, 19
"I want to be someone who is strong and sure of the decisions they made. I want to look back on my past and be proud and not regret any decisions because they clearly made me who I am today (well in the future)." -- Moné Moore, 20
I also took the liberty of coming up with an answer of my own to the question. As it seemed like everyone else, I took some time to really think about what I wanted as my answer. There are so many possibilities and endless accomplishments I want to have in the future, but they all seemed vague just like the question. After much thought, I decided on what I wanted to say.
"I want to help others in my life by giving them the chance to really see how important they are in this world. I want to be an advocate for those dealing with depression, anxiety, and other mental illnesses. Helping people has always been a passion of mine and I want to share my skills with the world without an expectation of something in return." -- Sierra, 18
