One of the many things that come with the holidays are the countless social media posts of couples with Christmas trees and New Years kisses. However, one thing I was disappointed to hear this holiday was talk of how people "need a man in their life" because they are starting to feel lonely.
No, you don't need a man in your life. You're young, you're beautiful, and you probably already have enough people to buy gifts for as it is.
One of the biggest things that I disagree with is that we need someone else in order to make us happy or, in this case, to make our holidays merrier. Sure, nights that we wish we had someone special are inevitable, but those are what puppies and body pillows are for.
There is absolutely nothing wrong with being a strong, smart, beautiful, single woman. If you ask me, that's one of the best things that any of us can be.
I mean, think about all the things you don't have to worry about over the holidays...
1. You don't have to stress over meeting new people and family members.
2. You can do cute couple-y things with friends, so you don't have to be embarrassed about falling on the ice rink.
3. You don't have extra presents to worry about!
4. And you can kiss whoever you want on New Years.
Needless to say, there are a lot of positive aspects to being single at any time of the year. We shouldn't let it make us think any less of ourselves.
Often, I've noticed, people let the fact that they don't have a significant other bring them down, and they begin to think that they're not good enough. Truthfully, anyone that can be alone and happy is someone that I respect. We shouldn't need another person to make our lives worthwhile.
So instead of wishing you had someone else to spend time with this holiday, focus of spending time with the people that you are grateful enough to call your friends and family.
Smile because you get a little extra cash that you can spend on yourself, instead of worrying about the perfect gift for a significant other. Explore your hometown and find somewhere new, make some new friends, or start your New Years resolution a little earlier.
Don't give being single a second thought because we don't need mistletoe to make our holidays merry.
