Who is your God?
I'm not talking about which "god" you serve. I'm talking about God.
It's a simple question, really.
God has many names. Jehovah, King of Kings, the Great I Am, Abba Father are all names of God. But I want to be more personal than that.
I didn't ask, "Who is God?" I asked, "Who is YOUR God?"
In your time of trouble, He is your comforter and your way of escape.
In your time of need, He is your provision.
When you were blinded by the sins of this world, He was your salvation and your sight.
See, your relationship with God is just that: YOURS. It's a personal walk that no preacher, teacher, deacon, friend, or sinner can define for you. God isn't one set thing for everybody. For a woman who prayed for a child but was cursed with a barren womb, God was her way of having a child.
We don't all fight the same battles, and the struggles I face aren't the same struggles you face. That's why God encompasses so many things and is something different for each of His children. He knows exactly what you need, and He knows how and when to give it to you.
God isn't always going to do what you want Him to do when you want Him to do it.
Let me repeat that: HIS timing is perfect, not yours.
If your house burns down and you lose everything but no one is hurt, don't yell at God for taking all of your earthly possessions. Instead, praise God for being the safety for your family.
If you have $3 in the bank and you don't know how you're going to afford bills, thank God for being the provision that will see you through the hardship.
Recognizing God in every situation is essential for a healthy walk with God.
Everything happens for a reason, and everything has a purpose. We may not always understand it, but God has His guiding hand in every aspect of our lives. God is our guidance.
So many times we pray to God for a new job that we end up quitting, a promotion we end up hating, and a new house that we can't afford that throws us into bankruptcy. In all of these situations, how many times do we stop to say thanks to the One who is working out the kinks in the other end? God is our provider when we need new jobs and promotions, and God is our help when we end up deep in a hole of our own making.
So the next time that you're asking God for a favor or screaming at Him for "doing something wrong," think about who your God is. Is he simply Abba Father, God, the Great I Am? Or is He something more personal? Is He your shelter, your protection, your provision, your salvation? Never forget who He is in your life. Because without Him, we'd all truly be hopeless human beings bound for the gates of Hell.
So I'll ask you one more time. Who is YOUR God?
