Somewhere, sometime, someone has said something memorable that everyone remembers and refers to. A very famous quote people often refer to is the one from the Star Trek series: "May the Force be with you". Another very famous quote is one from The Notebook where the main character said "My mama always said life was like a box of chocolates, never know what you're gonna get". Or the one from Alice in Wonderland where she says "I've got a feeling we're not in Kansas anymore". Or finally, how about that little creature from Harry Potter that says "My precious" all the time? Just the same with these quotes, people often refer to Bible verses in situations. A famous one is Jeremiah 3:19 which reads "For I know the plans I have for you....." That quote ring a bell? Or how about Acts 3:5. "For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God". Is that familiar? Probably the most famous is 1 Thessalonians 4:13. "I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me". Remember that verse?
If alarm bells are going off in your head, that's a good thing. Because none of those are correct. "May the Force be with you" is famous from Star Wars. The quote about chocolates is from Forrest Gump. Alice in Wonderland never said anything about Kansas. That was Dorothy in the Wizard of Oz. And, the little creature that says "My precious"? His name is Gollum and he is from Lord of the Rings. Just as alarms should have started going off about the quotes, they should about the Bible books too. The correct answers are Jeremiah 29:11, Romans 3:23, and Philippians 4:13.
Ok, how did you know those quotes and Bible verses were wrong? Because you've probably seen the movie or heard it from someone else. And, those Bible verses were drilled in your head after the first few weeks of Sunday School. Here's my point, if we do not continue to drill what God says in our hearts and minds, the devil will trap and ensnare us with the wrong quotes that sound oh-so-convincing. That is why it is so important to read the Bible and get Godly counsel. Don't fall into believing what the devil says. Lean on God so you know which quotes are correct and which ones are not.
