Welcome friends to my first Odyssey article! I should have started writing a long time ago, but then freshman year hit. Now some would say "school" is a terrible excuse, but then I would respond by saying "I was a music major," and you'd give some grace. There was just no time. Anyways, I'm super excited to begin this journey of creating fun articles to share. Now, when I think of "articles" I think of the world news. However, there will be no such thing here. Instead, stories from my childhood, moments from college, thoughts about my job and a whole bunch of fun, random topics that I love will be on display soon. I decided to begin, therefore, with an article on my favorite movie of all time. I could talk for hours about it, but thankfully for you, I somehow shortened down that conversation into my favorite moments below. Let's begin.
1. Sandra Bullock is Queen
![]()
Yes, this seems like a given because she is a famous actress and the main character. However, her performance as Lucy is the actual best! She’s so sweet and adorable; You just fall in love with her instantly!
2. Lucy. Just Lucy.
If I could be Lucy in real life I would. First of all, she loves Christmas. Look at this Christmas tree! Adorned with silver garland and covered in colored lights, it is gorgeous. Second, she pulls off messy hair and super baggy sweaters with ease, and everyone loves it. That's simply not fair. Third, she wants to go to Florence, Italy one day. What a dream to have. Is it mine too? Why, of course!
Finally, Lucy has a hard time talking to her crush, which is basically all of us. Ok, maybe just me. But in this moment, when she finally spoke to Peter, she had no words. Her next response is also me,

Every single time. 3. The Way Jack Looks at Lucy

First of all, can we all agree that the names “Jack and Lucy” just ring together perfectly? Not only that, he just looks at her and I declare I melt inside every time. He's just so happy to see her or be with her. Did I mention I was melting?
4. The Way Jack talks about Lucy

He knows her so well. He loves her so much. Need I say more?
5. Joe Jr.
![]()
![]()
Ok, when I first witnessed Joe Jr. on screen, I thought he was so creepy. His infatuation with Lucy just freaked me out; I thought he was just the weirdest human ever. I mean, he tried on her shoes.
However, after viewing this film more times than I can count, I fell in love with his goofiness and just couldn’t help but laugh at his obsession with Lucy. To top it off, he thinks he invented aluminum foil. I’m with Lucy here when she said, “He’s delusional!” And you can’t help but giggle inside at that.
6. Grandma Elsie
![]()
![]()
Other than her heart condition and her ability to boss everyone around, Grandma Elsie is perfect. She is the cutest thing you will ever see. The maker of eggnog that must be drunk slowly and queen over her entire family, she is the crazy one in the group. Even though she told Jack how to propose, she did tell him to kiss Lucy under the mistletoe. Hats off to Grandma.
7. That Mistletoe Kiss
Was Lucy technically engaged to Peter? Well, his family thinks so. But is she really? Nope! Endorsed by Grandma and company, this kiss had little sparks flying all over it. Not insanely passionate sparks, rather sweet and innocent ones. It was their perfect first kiss.
8. Jack and Lucy's Mishaps and Funny Moments
![]()
That one time they slipped on the ice. Okay maybe twice, and Jack accidentally ripped his pants. Just watch. It's funny.
Or maybe when the Callaghan's gave Lucy a couch, and they tried to put it in Peter's apartment.
Or when Lucy didn't know Jack was in the apartment, and she whacked him in the face. I feel sorry for him when I see his pain, and then I can't help but laugh a bunch. Sorry, Jack.
9. Lucy's Stocking
Peter’s family has just found out their son is in a coma and SURPRISE! He’s engaged to Lucy! Did I mention it’s Christmas day? Instead of going home and doing their own thing, the Callaghan's invite this new girl over for Christmas dinner. Not only that, they also buy her a present and make her a stocking to go with all the rest of the family. The Callaghan’s welcome her so willingly, and just like Jack, they fall in love with her instantly. Just like the rest of us.
10. The Proposal

I won't give you the details. You'll just have to watch the movie again. And I promise you won't be disappointed. Like I said earlier, it's just that good.
