Students Shouldn't Be Penalized For Teachers That Are Negative, Disorganized, Or Biased

I've observed students who didn't want to come to class because they didn't like the teacher's attitude or behavior.

Throughout our education, our teachers and professors have always graded us. They graded our academic performance, behavior in the classroom, exams, participation and overall attitude towards a variety of topics such as reading or writing. However, I've always thought that we as students should be able to grade our teachers.

Many times, there have been teachers who broke the rules but never got caught. As a teacher, they should also follow the rules and be enthusiastic about teaching. I have seen so many teachers who felt annoyed coming to work because they knew they have to deal with children of many different personalities all day. But shouldn't that be a thing to be excited about? As a teacher, you get to experience new people every day. You begin to further understand how to deal with certain personalities which in turn, makes you grow into a more caring and understanding teacher.

I've had teachers in the past who left on maternity leave for a large fraction of the school year. I mean, there's nothing wrong with that but the replacement teacher should be well assessed before substituting for the teacher who left. In my experience, these substitutes failed at teaching and stayed far away from making learning interactive. To be honest, there were times when I had to teach myself new material a week before the state test because the substitute teacher didn't manage time well. When a substitute or any teacher of that matter makes a mistake like that, especially before a big test or exam, then the student shouldn't have to receive the penalty for not being prepared for a test. No student should have to go through that.

As I was saying before, there were many teachers of mine who seemed annoyed and irritated about coming to work. Sure, something may have happened in their personal lives at home, but I have a strong belief when it comes to work-related issues. Even though you may have a billion things happening in your personal life, you should always have a smile on as soon as you enter the door at work. The attitude you put forth affects other people and a lot of people don't understand that.

For example, has anyone ever randomly smiled at you or complimented you? You feel happy after that and it sets your mood for the day. In the same way, teachers should come to work with a smile on their face with a happy attitude. In high school, I've observed students who didn't want to come to class because they didn't like the teacher's attitude or behavior. Why should students stop learning because the teachers don't have the right vibe or energy?

I think a great way to progress American education would be for students to start assessing teachers. Teachers would be assessed on their overall attitude/behavior, teaching style as well as if the student believes the teacher has a bias. Ever heard of the teacher's pet? It's true. In some cases, I've even observed teachers treat students of a certain race differently than other students. Bias and racism shouldn't have to be an issue when it comes to teaching. But sadly it is an issue and a very important one that should be addressed. If students assess teachers, education would be more fun and students, as well as their parents, would be more satisfied

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
