For some of us, when love strikes, it hits like a meteorite. It crashes through the atmosphere with unstoppable forces and craters into the ground. After we go through a heartache, we promise ourselves to never like someone again, and it actually works for a very long while, but let's be serious, one can't fulfill that promise. At the most unexpected time, Cupid's celestial blast will crash against your toughened heart and make you take another chance.
It's tough to find someone who really understands you. The few who made it to your heart, they were special. There was a connection. It wasn't just about how handsome he was, or how cute he looked when he smiled. okay, maybe it is a bit about that, but when you looked into each other's eyes- the night sky glowed with starlight.
Oh, to have loved- ha-ha!
Although the promise of a perfect romance wasn't fulfilled, these meteorites also helped you grow. You wanted to be better at something for them. Yes, we live in an independent society, but love is selfless. Love makes you want to be better for someone else.
Oh, and remember how you used to day dream about how your future would have been with him, and your thoughts got lost in the vortex of imagination? Okay- so you do less of that now, but at least you learned a lesson and now you're better at knowing what you want. Now that I think about it, though, that trip to Disneyland would have been a dream come true... anyway!
Love, or whatever you used to call it, also made you put up with things that you didn't like. Love is very accepting, and no one is perfect. J liked to smoke. I can't believe I used to let that humanized pyroclastic cloud get near my lips. Oh, and hanging out with R always meant alcohol. Sometimes it's nice not to drink, just saying. There was also E. He liked to use all of my body-wash and he left wet towels on the floor. Love is very blind.
It did feel kind of wonderful, though. When just the thought of seeing him again brightened up your face. Oh, and remember how excited you got each time you open up your phone at 8 a.m. to read his good-morning text. And when you finally got to see that perfect face, and you wished to stay on that couch forever (insert gasp here).
The truth is that sometimes it's just not meant to be. Those meteorites may have come straight from heaven, but at the end of the day, they turned stone-cold and they became rubble. Perhaps it's time for us to stop looking for the next cosmic rock to make a dent and focus on something closer. It's time to look for a stronger feeling.
The day will come when you'll look into his eyes and feel like the Earth's entire sky is covered by the bright glow of the Northern Lights. That's the day you'll know he's better than all those chunks of rock. You'll have the entire planet! You will have loved and gained and it will be perfect.
