I recently returned from a trip to Atlanta, Georgia to visit a friend, and I highly enjoyed all that we did. Though we were constantly on the go, never taking moments to rest, what we did was well worth the exhaustion. There are so many opportunities of fun in this city, and if you ever get the chance to visit some ideas for your trip are listed below:
1. Piedmont Park
Piedmont Park is located directly in midtown Atlanta. In the midst of the skyscrapers and other buildings, this beautiful park is a wonderful to get outside and experience some different activities, such as roller-blading and riding bikes (both of which you can rent). The park is surrounded by multiple restaurants, shopping areas, and even the Fox Theatre, allowing for easy access to other things to do after you're finished in Piedmont.
2. Ponce City Market
Once an old Sears warehouse, this "market" is now a high-end shopping area that holds a vast variety of stores inside. Stores and a food court are held on the bottom floor and, if you're up for games and a nice view of the skyline, you can take an elevator to roof of the building where a puyt-putt course, carnival games, and a beautiful view await you.
3. The Georgia Aquarium
Anyone who hasn't been to the Georgia Aquarium is truly missing out! This attraction is labeled as the #1 Aquarium in the country and is deserving of the title. Whether you want to see a dolphin show, touch sea anemones and starfish, walk under a shark tunnel, or see beluga whales chase each other around, this is a place for everyone to enjoy.
4. The World of Coke
If you are able to make time, the World of Coke is quite an interesting place to check out! By visiting this museum one is able to learn the history of a favorite soft drink and even taste different Coke products from all around the world (station are set up and allow you to taste coke drinks from Europe, South America, Asia, and more).
5. Stone Mountain
Yes, it is tiring if you aren't an avid hiker- but the view is so worth it. This hike is a steep one, no doubt. The beginning is not too bad, but about three-fourths up something changes and you are in need of bars to hold on to (which are, in fact, provided). If you can manage to do this around sunset, it makes the view all the better. At the top of the mountain you are able to see the entire city of Atlanta and more.
6. Lakewood Amphitheater
I was able to go to a Dierks Bentley concert, and it was one of my favorite parts of the trip, not necessarily because of the artist (though he was absolutely amazing, and I would highly recommend seeing him live), but because of the experience in general. Going to a concert with friends and creating fun memories was so much fun and a complete joy. Make sure to check out the amphitheater and see if there are any concerts while you are in town.
There are so many things to do in this wonderful city, but I was extremely happy with these activities above. I was consistently entertained and enjoying myself, which is something we all deserve at some point, right?
