New students in Omaha (and especially at Creighton) welcome to your new home (aha)! I am so excited for you all to start your journey on campus dive into your classes, and meet some amazing new friends! Your four years here will fly by in a flash, so it's definitely good to take some time and enjoy all that the Omaha area has to offer!

On that note, one of the best ways to bond with your new friends is to go and get some pretty amazing food off of campus when you're just not feeling Sodexo pizza any longer. Here is a list of some local, inexpensive restaurants in the Omaha Metro area that Creighton students swear by for Friday night dinners or sweet treats!

10. The Diner

Address: 409 S 12th St, Omaha, NE 68102

If you're looking for some traditional American comfort food (or some bomb blueberry pancakes) The Diner is the place for you! Located right in the heart of the Old Market, it's walking distance from campus, and it's old-style interior will make you feel right at home!

9. Leadbelly Burgers

Address: 3201 Farnam St #6101, Omaha, NE 68131

The name says it all! The burgers at Leadbelly are a real treat, especially after a Creighton Basketball game at the CenturyLink center! Grab your pals and go out for a real Cheeseburger in Paradise!

8. Yoshi-Ya Ramen

Address: 10000 California St, Omaha, NE 68114 (located in the Westroads Mall)

This ain't your average Cup O' Noodles! Yoshi-Ya features ramen with a twist. Full of fresh veggies, meat, and different broths (along with plenty of vegetarian options) there is no end to the neatness of good noodles!

7. Cali Taco

Address: 3235 California St, Omaha, NE 68131

It was once featured on The Food Network, and by the taste of their famous puffy-shelled tacos, it's no wonder! Cali Tacos is also located very close to campus, so when you're ready to feed your fiesta, good Mexican food is just steps away!

6. J's on Jackson

Address: 1101 Jackson St, Omaha, NE 68102

A good place to take your parents when they come to visit you! J's features a full menu of salads, soups, pasta (their lobster risotto is actual HEAVEN) and steaks that may just convince your family to pack up and move to O-Town!

5. Jones Bros. Cupcakes

Address: 2121 South 67th Street Omaha, NE 68106 (located in Aksarben Village)

One of the most popular places for a sweet treat in Omaha, Jones Bros. features a wide-variety of flavors of cupcakes bigger than your fist, such as Red Velvet, Carrot Cake, or Marble! Treat yourself to a true delicacy after a hard exam at Jones Bros.!

4. Ted and Wally's Premium Ice Cream

Address: 1120 Jackson St, Omaha, NE 68102

At Ted and Wally's a waffle cone can be your whole dinner! This traditional ice cream store prides itself on its inventive flavors and old-fashioned methods of making out-of this-world ice cream that's always prepared in-house! You won't find it anywhere else in the world, so we're lucky that a little piece of heaven fell a few blocks from campus for us ice cream lovers!

3. Thirst Tea Cafe

Address: 200 S 31st Ave #4105, Omaha, NE 68131

Are you a big bubble tea fan? Do you not have a clue what that is but would like to try it? Thirst Tea Cafe offers a wide variety of flavors of bubble tea and is an awesome off-campus study spot as well! You won't find this kind of tea at Starbucks, but trust me, after you try it, you'll fall in love!

2. Blue Sushi Sake Grill

Address: 416 S 12th St, Omaha, NE 68102

THE. BEST. SUSHI. EVER. There really is no other way to describe the delicacy that is Blue Sushi. This sushi grill offers two floors of amazing Japanese cooking, and is the perfect spot for a Friday Night treat after a long work week! (Not sure what to order? I recommend the Crunchy L.A. Roll!)

1. Lisa's Radial Cafe

Address: 817 N 40th St, Omaha, NE 68131

If you pride yourself on your brunch skills, add Lisa's to the top of your list. They offer everything you could possibly want and more when it comes to good brunch foods, but get there early in the morning! The restaurant is tiny, but the flavor isn't!

0. Mai Thai

Address: 14618 W Center Rd, Omaha, NE 68144

My personal favorite place to eat in all of Omaha! Get the Peanut Butter Chicken. Trust me, nuff said!

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
