What's On My Walking Around Campus Playlist

For the rare times that I get to leave my apartment and walk around campus.

What's On My Walking Around Campus Playlist

I love listening to music while I walk. Whether it's to my one class at the Bryce Jordan Center or the two-minute walk to the local McDonalds, I literally can't walk without music. Especially with campus quieter than normal due to COVID, listening to music allows me to fill the silence that would normally be taken up by the thousands of people walking around campus. Over the past two and a half weeks, I have come up with a playlist that makes me excited to walk and get the fresh air I need. Here is what I listen to.

"No Faith in Brooklyn" by Hoodie Allen and featuring Jhameel

Spotify

This 2012 hit was a song I discovered last year and I had no idea that it was by one of my favorite artists. It's super catchy and no matter how many times I listen to it, I can't get sick of it. The chorus especially is one that has stuck with me for the past year and I have come up with like 1000 different interpretations for what I think it means, all of which are probably wrong.

"Needs" by Verzache

Spotify

I found this song on TikTok of all places and it has quickly become one of my favorite songs. It's a little more alternative and I love the beat and the message behind it. For some reason, this song always comes on as I'm trying to make it up Shortlidge and it always gives me the motivation to make it up the hill without stopping. I promise you will be hooked on this song after one listen.

"hot girl bummer" by blackbear

Spotify

Whenever I hear this song, I am always reminded of the first time I heard it which was at some random frat last year. I added this song to my walking around campus playlist last year and while other songs have rotated in and out, this song has maintained a permanent spot. Its catchy chorus and beat make it one of my favorite songs to walk around campus listening to.

"Higher Love" by Kygo and Whitney Houston

Spotify

I listened to this song on repeat for a solid two months last year and still am not sick of it. Whitney Houston's vocals along with Kygo's added beat make it a must add to your playlist. I love listening to this song especially when I am just getting to my one class because it makes me happy and ready to endure the hour and fifteen minute lecture I am facing.

"Pay the Man - Remix" by Foster the People, JID, and Saba

Spotify

This song is a bit of a wild card for me because it isn't normally the type of music I listen to, yet nine months after I discovered it, I still listen to it regularly. This song is a bit more alternative and good for longer dull stretches of my walk to my one class. Would definitely recommend adding to your playlist if you are looking to expand your taste in music.

Those five songs are my core walking songs that I cannot get tired of no matter how hard I try. While this semester may be a little different, keeping some parts of my routine like listening to music while I walk help me to have some sense of normalcy. I hope you enjoy these songs and happy listening!

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
