Hospitality. Many have heard this, but few know what it means. By definition, hospitality is the friendly and generous reception and entertainment of guests, visitors, and strangers. Everyone needs hospitality in their lives, whether it be food or service. No matter what part of the industry, exceptional skills are needed in all areas.

During this pandemic, this industry has suffered more than any other. Since many restaurants either completely shut down or are only open for take-out, everyone is losing money. Now that everything is starting to open again, the restaurants will reopen for dine-in. Not all restaurants will be able to open fully, however. They may lose tables and money, but at least they can open.

The entire industry won't be able to open totally, or any time in the near future. When it does open up, however, it will need to be rebuilt. Every part will need different ways of doing everything. Exactly how much work needed is currently unclear. The only definite thing everyone knows is that things need to change. Nothing about life will ever be the same, especially not this.

People are going to be more skeptical about going out to restaurants now more than ever. Sitting inside with people you haven't been around, eating food from somewhere other than your own kitchen, things will never be the same. The recovery will be slow, but it will recover. It just won't ever be the same as it once was. It will, however, be so much better. Every owner will start to re-evaluate their priorities. They will also need to reconsider all their products and whatever else they offer.

Hospitality is everywhere. From the time one is greeted to the time they leave, from how people are treated to the things they eat, it's all about how the customer's experience. No one person can go a day without some type of hospitality in their lives. Hospitality, by definition, is the relationship between guest and host, wherein the host gives goodwill towards the guests; that is exactly what this industry is, generosity and friendliness towards guests. Any restaurateur must remember the most important thing: the people are the most important thing in this industry.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
