Why do you do what you do?

What Is Your Why?
David Bell

I'm really good at forgetting things. I lose my keys daily and it's a miracle if I make it a whole hour without forgetting where I left my phone. Occasionally, I forget why I do what I do. This past weekend, God reminded me why He gave me this passion but here's what else I've learned.

As I've talked about before, we all have our passions for a reason. God gave your passions to you so that you would be able to use them to glorify Him. The main thing I'm asking is this, why do you love what you do? Maybe you love art and the reason why is because it allows you to create something from your mind and put it on a canvas. When you find your why, you begin to understand why God specifically gave you the passions He did and therefore you begin to be able to use them to glorify Him more.

Remembering just who God is is also crucial to understanding why you do what you do. If the bedrock of why you do what you love isn't because you love it, are you really passionate about it? And if your reasoning for doing what you love isn't because God gave it to you, why even do it? Only God is eternal so our pursuits apart from Him are meaningless. Personally, I pursued everything but God for a while and I was passionate about it but in the end, I got burnt out on it. I didn't love what I did anymore. I lost my passion for it. Sure God could've given me that passion for a season for me to learn but ultimately it wasn't what He wanted me to be most in love with. God wants us to be most in love with Him, not things.

With that being said, why do you love God? Is it because He blesses you with things or is it because He first loved you as it says in 1 John 4:19? We should love God because in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. While we were pursuing things that had nothing to do with God, He pursued us. My prayer is that we continue to remind ourselves of who God is and the love He has for us. May we dive deeper into an understanding of the boundless passion He has for us. I pray that we continue to pursue the passions He has given us so that we might build the kingdom more. Much love and God bless.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
