What Your Top Artist For Your Spotify Wrapped Says About You

In This Article:

With the year almost over, my favorite time of the year has arrived, Spotify Wrapped time. If you don't know what that is, Spotify Wrapped is essentially a fun thing Spotify does for all of its users at the end of the year where it tells them their favorite artists, what was their most listened to songs at the end of the year, and more. People (including myself) use it as a time to post something on their Instagram stories showing off how cool their music taste is. I love looking at everyone's Spotify Wrapped because I feel it is like an insight into their personality so I decided this year that I would pick some of the common top artists I saw this year and write what I think it says about a person.

Taylor Swift

If your top artist was Taylor Swift, you are someone who wouldn't consider themselves basic but for some reason, you can't get enough of Taylor Swift. When her new album came out this year, you listened to it on repeat and judged everyone who said they preferred her old music. There's also a good chance you were a One Direction stan and you are projecting your energy on another childhood favorite.

Harry Styles

Speaking of One Direction, if your top artist was Harry Styles, you are a former One Direction superfan and you cried when they announced they were taking a break. When Harry released his banger of an album this year, you immediately overplayed it, which is why your top 5 are all songs from that album. You definitely pride yourself on the fact that your top song wasn't Watermelon Sugar which is why you posted your Spotify Wrapped.

Kanye West

You refuse to acknowledge that Kanye is a different person than he was thirteen years ago so you listen to College Dropout and Graduation enough to make it so he stays your top artist. When someone talks about the wild things Kanye has done this year, you have definitely said the phrase "I separate the art from the artist" in defense of your support for him. If you do listen to modern Kanye, you really are a diehard fan and well, I don't know what to say to that.

Lorde

If your top artist is Lorde, there's a good chance she has been your top artist for the last couple of years considering she hasn't come out with music since 2017. You probably disliked the song Royals when it came out but will defend every other song like it is your child. Like Frank Ocean, you hope this year will be the year she finally releases another amazing album and to pass the time you listen to the same two albums.

The Glee Cast

Wow, this really has been a dark year for you. While you are making Matthew Morrison proud somewhere, you yourself were miserable and used the Glee covers in order to get through quarantine. The Glee Version of Smooth Criminal remains one of the greatest covers of all time so I really can't blame you for listening to that on repeat this year.

Foster The People

You only like four of their songs and yet have managed to listen to those four songs enough times to make them your top artist. Or if you are like me and had them as your top artist, you listened to one of their songs seven hundred and eighty eight times. This year was a rough year for you and you listened to their songs or song on repeat in order to get through it and now you are trying to stop yourself from doing that again.

While there are so many artists I am missing, these were a couple that I saw a lot. I love all of these artists and in all honesty, listen to them all of the time as well. For everyone who was disappointed by their Spotify Wrapped like myself, I hope next years is better for you. Happy listening!

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
