What You Wear On Campus | The Odyssey Online

Another week, another issue, another editor’s note, and another discussion of something that really annoyed me this week. Now, before I absolutely tear apart a few select people on our campus, I’d like to throw it out there that I am not a mean-spirited, rain on your parade ‘cause I hate your parade and love to make it rain, evil guy. I am actually a fairly reasonable and respectful dude. I’m all about an E.L.E environment (Everybody Love Everybody) and just doin’ you. Ya feel? But there are still a few things that maintain the capacity to annoy this level-headed editor. This week it happened to be the gym and library outfits that I’ve seen people wearing (or gymfits and libfits).Gymfits
Gymfits are certainly the more prevalent/annoying out of these two campus trends. Most people (us regular folks) are wearing whatever we want to the gym. My thought process for picking out my gymfit is usually sequestered to what clothes are lying on my floor/what is most readily available. This usually results in the assembly off an odd motley crew of odd thrifted graphic tees, shorts I permanently “borrowed” from my 7th and 8th grade gym classes (they still fit for some reason) or my hiking shorts (shorter and GREAT for leg days).

But apparently some people put thought into what they want to look like when they look like a steamed, sweating, gross vegetable. Guys wearing leggings under shorts? That’s really not necessary. And when I say really not, I mean completely not. In addition, the whole tight Under Armour shirt layered under an oversized sleeveless shirt -- what’s that really doing for you, bro? I just don’t get it. I go to the rec to sweat, get my swell on, then promptly leave before anyone I know sees me struggling. It’s not a place I go to show off my new two-toned heattech shirt.
As for the ladies at the gym, I’d probably have something to say in regards to your outfits (I have a sister and know about that all LuLu everything craze), but I’m always downstairs with the weights, and you’re all upstairs with the eight different types of ellipticals (why do they need that many types?).
LibraryfitsLibraryfits are, as far as I’ve been able to comprehend thus far, more of a trend with the ladies on campus. Maybe it’s cause y’all ladies are just well put together all the time, but when I hit the library I’m just tryna get my comfy on. And maybe what some of you are wearing is comfy -- I’ve heard yoga pants are like putting a tempurpedic mattress pad on your pants -- but come on. We all know if you’re sitting in the central room of Walter, you’re just tryna catch the eye of some hottie. You’re not actually productive in that room, are you?

If your study grind isn’t sponsored by Champion, I’m questioning your motives. When you start to pull out the lacey, chiffoney, flowy, see-throughey articles of clothing, you start to leave the realm of comfy swag and instead enter the, “What’s cookin’, good lookin?” category. Not like there is anything wrong with that -- you do you. BUT, just sayin’....it’s the library. This is the one place on campus people go to concentrate on nothing else but their work. So, feel free to look all model-faced and styled at the library, but just know that no one really cares until you’ve left the building.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
