What We Should Give Thanks For

Thanksgiving is a wonderful time full of family, friends, happiness, and of course, being thankful. Often times, people forget the true meanings behind major holidays like Thanksgiving. It’s important to remember what Thanksgiving means, besides the great food. It is a time to put all differences aside and to be thankful for all that we have in life.

1. Family

Holidays, such as Thanksgiving, are for getting together with family and loved ones and making memories. There are no other people in life like your family. Even though you may see differently or have the occasional fight, they are your biggest supporters and will love you no matter what.

2. Friends

Your friends are people who get you through thick and thin. They want to see you happy, and will usually do anything to make you happy. They want wants best for you and want you to succeed. If we’re lucky enough, we have friends we consider family.

3. Health

Not all of us are blessed with good health. Thanksgiving is a time in which we should be grateful for our healthy lives and remember those who aren’t so lucky and how easy we take it for granted.

4. Your significant other

Being in a relationship teaches you a lot about yourself and what you want in a partner. We should be thankful for having the opportunity to grow with someone and be with someone who makes us a better version of ourselves.

5. Freedom

If freedom didn’t exist, we wouldn’t be able to speak our minds and believe in whatever we chose to. We also wouldn’t have the freedom to be whoever we wanted to be. Without freedom our world be completely different. Sometimes we don’t realize how important our freedom really is.

6. Education

Not everyone has this opportunity. We should be thankful for the ability to go to school every day and learn and enhance our minds.

7. Love

Can you imagine a world without love? We’re all pretty lucky to be able to experience love in the millions of different ways it exists in our lives. After all, it does make the world go round.

8. Pets

Life would be boring and not nearly as happy without pets. Whether it’s a dog, cat, bird, or anything else, pets are special creatures in our lives.

9. Laughter

Have you ever thought about a laughless world? It would be quiet and sad. Laughing is good for the soul.

10. Breathing

Being able to open your eyes and wake up every day is all in itself something to be extremely thankful for.

There are a tremendous amount of other things to be thankful for as well. We all have something to be grateful for, and if we have things to be thankful for I think we are pretty lucky.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
