What To Do In A Zombie Apocalypse

What would you do if the dead suddenly started walking around and began eating the living?

I've been watching too much of "The Walking Dead," but it could happen! Many times, I have walked outside in the middle of the night to either take out the trash or let the dog in, and I could not help but peek slowly over the fence to make sure a zombie wouldn't ambush me.

That being said, it's safe to assume that I have thoroughly considered what I would do if the zombie apocalypse ever did happen. Here are some of my main thoughts.

Warning: This article will heavily feature "The Walking Dead" references, gifs and possible spoilers!

1. Shelter

Obviously, you're going to need somewhere to stay, somewhere that will keep the zombies at a safe distance. In "The Walking Dead," the survivors take shelter inside of an abandoned prison after they clear it of "walkers." The guard tower gave a large range of vision, allowing the survivors to spot danger easily and quickly. The fences made for a useful barrier. The survivors even buffed up their security so walkers definitely couldn't get in.

One place that I figure could be great during a zombie apocalypse is an amusement park. The top of the roller coasters would be great to use as a look-out, and survivors could seclude themselves up on the platforms at night for a good night's sleep. Zombies can't climb, that we know of.

2. Morality

"To kill the monster, you become the monster," was a quote recently used by Madison Clark in AMC's "Fear the Walking Dead." It's totally true! One of my biggest concerns would be preserving my morality. The trick would be to always do what is right while still managing to survive.

Unfortunately, those lines can blur as the definition of what is "right" can change rapidly when fighting for your life.

3. Comrades

My biggest fear is being alone during the zombie apocalypse. Initially, I would like to think I could meet up with my friends and family to take on the apocalypse together, but what if that's not possible? I'd make connections with people early on, when no one has become sadistically crazy yet. That way, we could build mutual trust, learn the ropes together and create a makeshift "family."

You will need that mutual support quite often.

4. Weaponry

Guns are a must have, but they may not always be the best choice. The sound of a firing gun could alert surrounding zombies or people to your location, and then you'll really have an issue. Knives, baseball bats (wrapped in barbed wire), hammers and spears are just as good for taking out zombies. Save the bullets for the evil people.

5. Food

Definitely make sure you have some people in your group who can hunt, fish or cook. It'll save you more than once. In the beginning, though, make sure you pack as healthy as possible. Try some canned goods, but make sure you have a can opener. Later on, consider a shelter that can sustain a garden where you can grow all sorts of important veggies such as corn, beets and peas.

Always be on the look out for food, as well!

These are just some thoughts, I'm sure there are plenty more out there. Share this article, and give your thoughts on your Zombie Apocalypse plan!

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
