Wow, you’re having such a good time with your friends! The three of you are having a grand time laughing with each other and enjoying the palpable friendship in the air. Naturally, the topic of Beyoncé or Destiny's Child comes up and your one friend says, “Hm… I wonder who would be who if we were Destiny's Child?” You gasp. Your heart sinks. You want to run away. But there is nothing you can do… You realize you are the Michelle of the group.
You don’t want to be the one to suggest it first… But it’s so obvious. You’re don't run the world like Beyoncé and you definitely aren’t as fierce as Kelly Rowland. You are clearly Michelle Williams. You think about just saying it out loud… Admit to the world that you would be the Michelle of the group. But who the hell wants that? So you keep quiet and just hope your other friends pick you to be either of the other two options.
Your one friends immediately says “Well, I’m Beyoncé”. And you have to admit… Damn. They are the Queen Bey of the group. So you can’t even argue with that. Then you have a 50/50 chance. You start sweating. You and your other unclaimed friend look at each other nervously. She’s probably thinking the exact same thing as you.
Your friend who has already claimed Beyoncé looks back and forth between you two. The next few seconds feel like hours. She looks at your friend, points, and says that they would make a better Kelly. You fall to the ground (or at least you do in your head).
You are officially Michelle of Destiny's Child. What are you going to do? This is an outrage! You are not Michelle! Trust me, my friend. I’ve been there. It’s a rough process. You think you’ll never be able to get out of this slump and become a Kelly or Beyoncé. Well you know what… The only thing you can do is own that shit. You are Michelle Williams. And she’s extremely underappreciated. And here’s why…
- She would rather take the background and let others take the spotlight. That just shows signs of being a true friend. You're an awesome friend. Good work!
- You're still a successful performer! Don’t let the lack of a popular solo career fool you. She’s been on Broadway multiple times and still has the awards to prove she’s an acknowledged solo singer.
- Just think… There have been three other girls in Destiny's Child at some point but no one even knows their names, usually. You’re one of the survivors!
- You still performed at the Superbowl with Beyoncé. She could have invited any singer to be up on that stage with her and she pick her original squad. Friendship is a gift.
So you may be Michelle… That can be good news! Look at it in a positive way, you're still are a beneficial member of the award-winning group, Destiny's Child. Or you can just beg your friends to change with you. I totally get that as well.
