Things To Be Scared Of As A Woman In Trump's America

Do you know your rights?

As a young female in modern America, I am afraid for the lives of us women in America. Since Donald Trump started in office, we have seen our rights slowly being taken away. I am afraid for the future for us women, because of the direction our society is heading in Trump's America.

Despite what Trump and his administration have implemented toward a backward society like revoking the Differed Action for Childhood Arrival (DACA), Trump has taken away rights our country has worked toward, such as birth control and the affordable health care act and abortions.

In July of 2017, Trump threatened to end the government’s aid on the Affordable Health Care. The funding of the government was used to lower the price of coverage in low-income families. So how does this affect women and our future generations? This will hurt many, and especially single mothers who are looking to get insurance for their children.

Revoking this is a stab at affordable health care, and it makes it even more inaccessible. The end of this could lead to many deaths in America from the lack of health care. Health care is a human right, not a privilege.

After years of us women fighting for the rights we deserve, Trump starts attacking the rights we have fought for. Trump is trying to take away our birth contraceptive rights. Birth control helps to prevent so many unwanted pregnancies.

Additionally, the topic of abortions has always been a shaky topic in our country, but Trump and the White House recently enacted a very controversial ban on 20-week-later abortions. Though they will allow abortions after 20 weeks if it was due to incest, rape, or harming the mother, there are still other events to worry about.

If it is not allowed and someone still wants an abortion after 20 weeks, people will still find another way. Whether it be safe but illegal, or self-done and incredibly dangerous. Furthermore, if an abortion happens after the 20-week limit, and does not meet the requirements for the after 20-week limit, people can be fined or put in prison for up to five years.

So what’s the argument on these? Why does Trump want to end the Affordable Health Care Act? When government money is pulled out of the Affordable Care Act, the more money Trump America can use for other reasons like the wall. Additionally, Conservative Economics suggest that creating competition in the insurance companies will decrease the cost of it, when in reality, it could slowly be increasing.

Other than that, why does he want to attack our birth control and abortion rights? How can our government worry so much about a being who isn’t even existing yet, and not worry about the ones who are already living in this world?

So what can you do as a citizen? Call your Congressperson and tell them how you feel. Continue to be educated on the new laws that could affect your rights as an American citizen. Though some rights seem questionable to the government, they are still your rights, so don’t hesitate to voice your position in the laws affecting the people of America.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
