Every child goes through phases of being absolutely obsessed with something. For me, the one obsession that has been with me since second grade is Harry Potter. Being part of the Harry Potter generation isn't easy, because even though the final book and movie were published and released years ago, we are still affected by it daily. The most recent thing which has affected me is the theory about Dumbledore's role in the Deathly Hallows.
In November 2014, this Tumblr user that I follow, harryjxmespotter, posted that they believe that Dumbledore's role in the Deathly Hallows is Death. Why, you ask? Well, if you remember the story of The Three Brothers from either the book or the movie, it makes absolute sense! In the story, there are three brothers who each want something different. The oldest brother wanted power, the middle brother wanted to "recall others from death", and the youngest brother just didn't want to die. Picture, for a moment, Voldemort, Snape, and Harry in those brother's places. Voldemort spends his entire life trying to become the most powerful dark wizard of all time, Snape spends his life thinking of nothing but the memory of Lilly Potter, and Harry Potter spends his years at Hogwarts just trying to not be killed by any of the crazy things which tend to happen around him.
But what's most important in this story is Death's role. The brothers destroyed something deadly together with magic, and Death appeared (mostly because he was super mad and thought they cheated him), giving them the things they wanted. Death knew that two of them, the older brothers, would choose things to further humiliate him, but their gifts would lead them to meet Death much earlier than they anticipated. The youngest brother was wise and chose the Invisibility Cloak, evading Death until he was old and ready, at which time they greeted each other like old friends. So you may be asking yourself, okay, what is Dumbledore's role in this? Well, Dumbledore is Death.
Dumbledore gave Harry Potter the Invisibility Cloak for Christmas in "Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone." He had both the Resurrection Stone and the Elder Wand. Dumbledore played a role in both Snape and Voldemort's deaths. Dumbledore greeted Harry Potter at King's Cross station after Harry decided it was time for him to die (when he realizes he is a Horcrux). They greet each other like "old friends."
Therefore, Dumbledore is Death. It makes 100 percent perfect sense. But the new question is, is that what J.K. Rowling meant to do? Or did it happen on accident? Either way, this new theory is just one of the million reasons why "Harry Potter" is the most amazing fandom in the history of fandoms. Years after the ending, this series is still making magical appearances in my life and turning it upside down.
