What I'm Thankful For

'Tis the season to be thankful

What I'm Thankful For
TJ Koziol

I wasn't originally intending to write a "what I'm thankful for" article this week; given the season, I'm sure there is no shortage of similar post flooding your feeds. However, after some reflection I have realized I have more to be thankful for this year than most.

I'm lucky to not only have a stable full-time job but also this space in which I can burn off my creative energies. Many people struggle simply to put food on the table for their families and I'm incredibly thankful to be in a position where I can both pay all my bills while saving for the future, as well as have a forum to express myself.

Earlier this year, I was in a car accident and walked away pretty much unscathed. My car was not so lucky. However, insurance provided a great down payment on a new vehicle and I was back on my feet (or wheels) in no time. A lot of things could have made the situation much worse, but I'm incredibly thankful how it all turned out.

While the process has certainly had its ups and downs, I'm proud to say I will be closing on my first house this December. Not many 25-year-olds are in that position and I'm very thankful (and excited!) to be starting this new portion of my life.

On top of all of this, I am so very lucky to have a phenomenal family and friend group. I have known most of my friends for the better part of a decade, some for almost double that time and I don't feel that's something many people can claim. I am lucky to have not one but two families supporting me and I am so thankful for that.

Life moves fast and it's easy to get caught up in our routines. I think it's important to slow down from time to time and reflect on everything good that's happening in your life, even if it doesn't seem like there is much at the time. Maybe it's a new job or house, maybe it's just great food and friends. We should take stock of all the good in our lives more than just once a year, chances are you have a lot to be thankful for, too.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
