What Really Happens The Week Before Christmas

Christmas is here everyone...that statement will make some people jump for joy, while others cringe at the very thought of it. The movies portray this time of year as perfect. Everyone is happy, things are great, and there's no stress. We just sit around the tree with our loved ones singing Christmas carols...let's be honest, that's not really how this goes. whether this is your favorite time of year or not, here's how the week before Christmas really ends up going...

1. Panic.

It happens to all of us...It is the week before Christmas and you suddenly realize that you haven't done anything you were actually supposed to do to prepare for this holiday. Remember when you said you were going to get all of your Christmas shopping done in October? Yeah, that was a lie. You probably bought one gift for someone back then, felt super proud of yourself for getting a jump on things, and then stopped.

2. How much money am I actually spending?

Soon after the panic of realizing that you haven't bought anything for anyone, you choose to go crazy and just start spending twice the amount of money you originally had planned just to get presents for everyone.

3. The frustration you endure when your cat discovers the Christmas tree...again...

What is so exciting about climbing and eating the tree? I don't understand...but I probably spend about half of my life in December screaming at my cats to leave the freaking tree alone.

4. Wrapping Presents

After you get back from blowing your entire bank account on stuff you can barely even remember buying, it's time to spend the entire day wrapping! It's an endless cycle of losing the tape, losing the scissors, the cat laying on your wrapping paper, and forgetting what you already wrapped and what you didn't...Not to mention you will need a full body massage after either sitting on the floor or bending over for hours trying to do this. This can seriously be an all day project.

5. Trying to Please Everyone.

For some reason, the Christmas season makes everyone feel like they have to be perfect and nothing can go wrong. Sometimes that's just not possible...You can't please everyone.

Don't get me wrong, I love the holidays and Christmas is one of my favorite times of the year...but it is definitely not all happy and cheerful all the time like the movie's sometimes make it out to be. It can be stressful, but it always seems to work out in the end.

Merry Christmas Everyone!

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
