What Music Means to Me

You don’t have to be a musician, a singer, play an instrument, or write music in order for music to be a special part of your life. Music holds such an important part of my life, and without it, I would go mad. Everyday I wake up and play music, almost all through out my daily day’s routine. I am not one of those kinds of people that strictly listens to just EDM, just country, or just rap. I love every genre of music. Music is used to create a union through people; to physically, spiritually, mentally and emotionally bring people together through this common love of different sounds. It is not talked about often, because loving music is something most people do involuntarily. We don’t realize how consistent it is within our lives and how much of an impact it truly has on our everyday moods and activities.

Sit and think about a world without music. Just really think about it. What would you do during a long drive? What would you do at the club with your friends? What would you jam out to when you clean your room? Silence is powerful, but music is an escape. It has that power to set you free when you need to be, and you have all that power to do so. Music is this incredible part of our lives that we lack to appreciate. It mellows you on a rainy day, calms you down when you’re angry, and lights up your spirit on a sunny day with the sunroof open. It is in constant correlation with your mood, and has the ability to form what type of mood you are in. You can even almost always tell what type of person someone is by the music they listen to. You grow up listening to it, and it helps to shape your personality and your individuality as a whole.

Finding a song that relates to your current life situation is one of the greater joys in life, (along with being handed the aux cord). It is crazy that a beat line, a few instruments, and some lyrics sung by a human can do so much to save people. Music has been an outlet in my life for as long as I can remember, and that’s why it is so important to me. When I am going through an emotional struggle, sentimental lyrics can do so much to help me understand why it is exactly that I’m going through what I’m going through. It has that strength to lift you up, or be there for you when you just want to cry. Music is a friend, and one that you always can count on. When you are enjoying a good song, it has that capability to take away all of your worries for those four minutes, and make you feel invincible. When you are enjoying great music, nothing else in life really matters at that moment and that is the purest, most simple beauty of it.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
