No, we don't grow potatoes. Yes, we grow corn. But we're actually more than farmers believe it or not. Iowa is a great state and let's take a look at just a few of the reasons why.
1. Nature Places to Sight See
From the underground waterfalls, to the caves, and the pretty spectacular sunsets, Iowa has extremely underrated beauty. Heading out to the east side of the state can surprise you at the great hikes and views you can experience.
2. Non-Nature Places
There are plenty of places you can go and be in awe. The Amana colonies are fun and intriguing. The Redemption Grotto is another stop worth checking out. Living History farms is for sure worth a visit. If you like immersing yourself in different cultures and looking to see how people lived before smart phones, that's for you. So many other small towns and blended cultures to explore. You won't run out.
3. Healthiest, Lowest unemployment rate in the USA:
Ames, Iowa. This city isn't just a random chance, it's a clean, respectable city that holds some of the best things the state has to offer, namely...
4. Food
Hickory Park is only one example from Ames. Check out Cup of Joe from Cedar Falls. Or look at Zombie Burger in Des Moines for some of the best burgers. So many different local places to check out. Next, go to the state fair and do some taste testing. Also, Iowa has the second highest Amish population, and they are fantastic cooks. If all else somehow fails, the corn is still the best here hands down.
5. Weather
Yes, Iowa can get pretty cold... and pretty hot. But honestly, no extreme at either end is hit. You can pretty much experience all 4 seasons. And spring here is better than pretty much anywhere else.
6. Amusement Parks
Two Amusement parks that both have perks. Adventureland is the larger with more coasters also containing a massive water park. The other is more scenic that has its own sites and thrills. Did I also mention that there are also waterparks, one named in the top ten on trip advisor?
7. Des Moines
The capital and largest city. There are so many things to experience, but here one can mostly get a taste of many. Check out the arts festival with free music. The aforementioned Adventureland is here. There is also a neat zoo with its own treasures. The capital building has its own history. Next, stop by the botanical gardens. The list only keeps growing.
8. The People
There are some fantastic people from Iowa. We call pop soda and don't have a twang in our voice, but we love our state and for the most part, people treat each other with respect. Come by and see for yourself.
